Re: Philippines Ghost Stories
I don't visit these forums nearly as often as I used to, but I'll check back to see what you concluded after the landlady's investigation. As I said, I don't believe in ghosts, but I am interested in the unusual and the strange. I suppose we could class the supernatural as things which we can't readily explain,or not yet anyway?
All the best. |
Re: Philippines Ghost Stories
Philippines. I was staying in a hotel near Warrington called the Old Vicerage. The were two or three older women who came in to the do the breakfast, deliver news papers and coffee to the rooms and give early morning calls to wake any guest who required and early start. These women would wear black and white dresses and blouses. One morning there was the knock and a head and shoulders appeared around the door, I full of sleep acknowledging started to get up and dress then noticing it was 3am, shrugging my shoulders went back to bed and thinking nothing more about it. A couple of months later stopping at the hotel, I stayed there regularly as I was carrying out servicing work at the ICI plants in Widnes. That evening I was in the bar and the daughter of the owner was talking to another guest about the horel being haunted, she wouldn't say were other than in the older part of the building. That was the first I knew about it and talking to her she agreed with my story.

All the best. I think from reading your reply that this thread could be better titled Philippines Supernatural Stories. Perhaps if Admin is reading this they could kindly change the title? Anyway....a couple of weeks ago now, I was rudely awakened in the middle of the night by a commotion above the ceiling. Imagine toddlers running about at playschool. This was accompanied by the sounds of objects being moved about such as boxes or furniture etc. This lasted about 30 minutes and repeated again about an hour later. There was also what I can only describe as undetermined animal noises. Every 5 minutes or so the commotion stopped....to be replaced by knocking, imagine someone knocking on your door. I reported this to the landlady next morning who smiled sweetly and said it must be rats. It wasn't. I have heard rats scuttling about before. A few days later, I was out of the house for about 10 minutes to return to find that my partner was beside herself with panic and showed me the bedroom. She had heard noises as I have described and part of the ceiling had collapsed. Imagine a foot going through the ceiling. Shards of ceiling was hanging with dust and debris across the floor. I summoned the landlady to show her what these "rats" had done. She wasn't amused. A few days later a couple of guys came to fix the ceiling which incidentally appears to be made of plywood or similar and certainly not rotten. A hole was found in the roof where I guess a small human could squeeze through. Nothing was found in the void between ceiling and roof. Except a dead cat. The description of the cat is of an elderly unkempt stray that I have been taking care of for the past 4 years who visits the house daily and sometimes sleeps in lounge area during inclement weather. He had been missing for a week prior to the discovery. So there you are. The noise was not cats running about fighting.... they make a helluva of a noise with their screeching. Kids? Unlikely during the middle of the night. Heavy objects being moved around? The area was empty. And what about the rythmic tapping? I have heard these noises before a few times before... but certainly not on this scale. Regards. |

A bizarre occurrence yesterday evening. I enjoy a Kulafu and coke each evening and whilst watching a video, I reached across to my bedside chair to take a sip and there I saw in my glass was a tailess lizard. Floating upside down and dead. How did it get there? I have very few in the house...if any. The only ones I see are the dead ones the cats bring in. Never seen a lizard drop from the ceiling before. Certainly never saw it climb up onto the chair and into the glass for a swim. But they can swim. Alcoholic poisoning? Just another bizarre mystery. Briefs since I last penned. We went grocery shopping and as per normal I removed the long till receipt stapled to the outside of the brown bag and after folding it up, placed it on the bedside chair to check later. Few hours later, I unfolded it only to be met with a gooey mess. Think lubricant grease. No recognisable smell. Went to get my shampoo from the top of my small cupboard in the bedroom to take to the shower. There I saw shampoo had been poured across part of the cupboard. I only open and close the bottle in the shower. This has happened twice before in the past...this time early yesterday morning when I awoke at 2.15 to watch live football on my cell phone. After a few minutes, there was a very loud bang on the bedroom door. Think of a large stone thrown at short distance at the wooden door. Short inspection revealed nothing. Finally. For the last 3 weekends when the missus and daughter have gone back home, everything is dark in the house except my bedroom. When darkness falls, I leave the light on in the kitchen so I can see along the passageway...(saves stepping on the cats when they follow me to the refrigerator). I always leave the light on returning back to the bedroom after a refill for my evening tipple for the same reason. For the last 3 weekends, the light has been mysteriously turned off on one of the nights. Wonder what next? If anything. Regards. |

Few days ago, I was tidying up the bed. Moved the bedside chair out of the way and I heard something fall. Sounded like my glasses which I keep there with other bits and pieces. Sure enough, no glasses on the chair. But nowhere on the floor. Found eventually after about 10 minutes on top of the clothes cupboard. I never ever put them there. For a few nights I was disturbed whilst trying to sleep by the bedroom door creaking... although I never spotted it opening and closing.ajar. checked the door by opening and closing....no creaking. Couple of days ago whilst having a morning kip in a darkened room.... only lit by the sun coming through the drawn curtains, an undistinguished noise woke me up. There about 6' away by the window was a dark figure. It was leaning over to the right as if to see if I was sleeping. Thinking it was my lovely lady just checking on me, I turned over and closed my eyes. It then dawned on me that it was Saturday. She and her daughter go home for the weekend on a Friday. I was alone. Turned back over...and the figure had gone. Dream? Don't think it was. But it would have been the 3rd sighting as previously mentioned. Last week, the daughter of my lovely lady was lying on the settee watching TV and stuck her hand out of the window behind her. She let out a shriek. Something had grabbed one of her fingers. Nothing was found. This reminds me of two occasions over the past 4 years here I have had my toes grabbed whilst sleeping. Always thought it must be our playful cat. Not so sure now. Finally, on Friday afternoon whilst having my afternoon nap for about an hour, I walked to the kitchen and found the floor covered in water. The drinking water machine which holds those 25 litres? of water had half emptied itself. Had the machine checked out...no problems. Landlady thought maybe a problem with the water container. Really? Anyway, she supplied another full container container and no problems since. Wondering what might happen next.... |

Lovely lady has been using the shower unit for some time in preference to Filipina style of bucket and ladle. Yesterday whilst enjoying a shower, she turned around to shower hair and back, and the water stopped flowing. Turned back round to face the shower and the water started flowing again. Tried again and the water stopped.as before. Did this 3 times and she exited the shower in a hurry. Never happened to me in the 4 years I have been here. Shes now back to the bucket and ladle. In the interim, had two occasions of objects being moved from their established "home" to some where else. Recently bought another electronic weighing scales and that has started "winking" at me on occasion when I enter the bedroom. Happened before with the old set. Ho hum.... |

Since last time, there has been the usual knocking on the bedroom door and walls. But another new noise.... imagine a heavy metal nut or bolt dropping on the tiled floor in the bedroom at night. Nothing found in the morning. Twice now. Two personal objects had been moved during the night.... but easily found. I have an anti perspirant spray in a glass bottle. Was a third full and empty next morning. I always leave the bedroom door ajar when I sleep so the 2 cats can go in and out. Last week it was fully wide open when I woke up. Never happened before. I was alone that weekend. The other night, I heard one of the cats scratching at the door trying to get into the bedroom. The door was ajar as normal. She tried for 10 minutes and I could see her paw reaching into the bedroom. The door would not move. Got out of bed and it opened no problem. This one scared my lovely lady who ran into the bedroom. Locking up at night, she heard one of our cats wanting to come indoors. She opened the door to let her in, but the cat had gone. But when she tried to close the door again, a force was trying to hold it open. Finally, a strange one. About 2 months ago the 21 yo daughter of my lovely lady lost a favourite T shirt. They searched high and low but to no avail. They assumed it was stolen whilst drying outside. I found it today. I went for a shower and put a change of clothes on the bed.. Came out of the shower and there was her T shirt... laying next to my clothes. Ho hum. All for now.. |
Re: Philippines Ghost Stories
I did say that I'm sceptical about ghosts, but interested in the strange and unusual, so I've been following this thread from time to time. This sounds quite intriguing! Have there been any further episodes, or possible explanations surfacing?
I can't remember if I mentioned it in the past, but I'm South African on my mother's side of the family and lived there for donkey's years. Africa has many strange stories to tell, and its people are generally less sceptical than most Westerners. I wonder what Credo Mutwa (a sangoma who died some years ago, at the age of 98) might have thought about your experiences. He was an interesting man, to put it mildly ... Hamba kahle. |

Strangely enough, nothing further has manifested itself since my last post, it's gone all quiet here. Which is strange. Its almost as if this entity (if I can call it that) has become bored and gone to bother someone else. I was more concerned about my lovely lady and her 21 yo daughter about wanting to move out. But, I tried to keep it light hearted and referred to our "friend" as our playful "mo-mo". But if anything else occurs, I will certainly document it here. You mentioned S.Africa. I lived in W.Aftica when I was a kid for 3 years and mumbo jumbo was rife. The Africans were very scared of the witch doctors who performed various "miracles". I once saw a witch doctor slice the hand off a woman .... just for show. And then re-attach it again. But there again, I was just a kid and maybe fooled by a sleight of hand....if you forgive the pun. Regards.. |
Re: Philippines Ghost Stories
Good Evening!
Thought I'd post and ask how things are going since your last update? Have things remained quiet? You mentioned living in West Africa when you were a child. I think most African people believe in the supernatural, to some extent anyway, but I've always taken this to have a whole range of meanings and interpretations which don't necessarily correspond with our own, Western, views. I remember, some years ago, being involved in a risk evaluation for a client which took an odd turn. I was at another client's property, south of Joburg, when I received a call from the first client's HR offices in the UK. The cellphone signal was poor, the caller was a Glaswegian, and he explained that they had a problem in their SA office because one of the staff had accused another man of getting a 'witchdoctor' to make him sick. I ended up standing in the middle of the carpark trying to explain the difference between an inyanga and a sangoma to a gentleman who hadn't a clue what I was talking about, with the call breaking up every couple of minutes ... They were good days though! |

They were good days though! All has been quiet here since part of the ceiling caved in a few months ago. But it's started up again about a month or so ago, but not as intense. First I heard noises above the ceiling again sounding like light furniture or boxes being moved about. But it's a void up there. Lasted about 30 minutes. Then again this morning for about 5 minutes. Next came missing items turning up. My lovely lady found a blouse in her clothes drawer that had been missing for months. Presumed lost or stolen. She uses that drawer daily. A handerchief which never moves from under my pillow disappeared for most of the day, turns up under a pile of clothes in the lounge. Another handerchief which lives in my pocket disappeared for 4 days and turns up outside about 50 metres away on a path which I use many times a day. It was unblemished by rain, and the unmade path. Items sounding like a metal object dropped onto our tiled bedroom floor. Nothing there. Cannot remember if I have mentioned this before, but I used to find 5 php coins on the bed or bedframe. Found another one about a week ago. Found a big "glob" of grey matter by the bed. Similar consistency of automotive grease. No distinguishable smell. Similar happened before. Finally, I think the most unusual. We have those large blue water containers that are inverted onto a water dispenser. After about a week and it was half full, I found a large cockroach running about INSIDE the container. I cannot see how that could have got in there. The container is brim full when received. I showed the landlady who has never seen anything like that before. She said nonchalantly as she left that it must have been done by a witch. As far as W.Africa is concerned, apart from the regular meetings on the football ground attended by a huge crowd, all I saw in addition to what I mentioned previously, was a witch doctor "curing" people of illnesses. After which they would wà lk around in a trance with souless eyes. They would also perform tricks of magic which you can see on a stage . Always interesting to see. We had a young boy living nearby who's mother was cursed when she was pregnant. He was à n albino. Yes... witchdoctors were feared when crossed, but the "go to" if you were sick. Regards... |
Re: Philippines Ghost Stories
And so it continues..
My Lovely Lady's daughter was studying in the lounge late one night about a week ago and suddenly realised that the stand alone electric fan was not working. It had been switched off. She immediately went to bed after switching it back on. This morning whilst trying to take a nap in the bedroom, my fan suddenly switched off. It had been unplugged. I have a small box which I keep in a drawer with spare parts for my Ecig. Not been opened for at least a year or so. About a week or so ago, I found a spare part under the bed. Yesterday morning I found another one on the bedroom floor. And yes, the floor is swept and mopped regularly. Lovely lady came back this morning after a weekend away visiting her family.. Her charger has gone missing but the cable is still intact where she always leaves it when she leaves for the weekend. Now, the weirdest. I keep my 4 plastic cylindrical vape liquid containers on a clothes locker in the bedroom... amongst other paraphernalia. The clothes locker top is beveled so there's no flat surface. So to stand the containers, I use a piece of cut out cardboard on which they stand. Directly in front of that I have 4 plastic containers holding my Ecig rechargeable batteries. Last week, I woke up in the morning and found that the 4 cylindrical containers had been moved off the cardboard one step forward and the batteries had also been moved one step forward also. Finally. I was chatting with my lovely lady about the strange behaviour of our black cat. Each time I get close or touch a very old tree outside, if the cat is present, she will race up the tree and aggressively ward me away. She then mentioned that it's Philippines folklore that old trees can carry "spirits" that animals can detect. Perhaps she is warning me away she suggested. Well that's all right then. The tree is no more than 2 metres from my apartment. |

It's been very quiet since I last posted which is why I have not updated except 3 occasions which I will go into shortly. The tree that I mentioned in my last post has since been cut down. I noticed that the tree was looking very unstable a few months ago after the earth tremors and typhoons and reported it to the landlady who subsequently had it chopped down. However back in December I think it was, I was walking past the water dispenser and noticed that the water was moving side to side as if someone had rocked the container. I was alone in the house. Thought at the time that it must have been another earth tremor which was prevalent at the time. Checked a few times later on with my earth quake app and nothing was reported. Now the longganisa mysteries. Each week for the past few years, I buy two packs of longganisa and hotdogs. 154 PHP. 2 weeks ago, my lovely lady brought out one pack of each out of the refrigerator for defrosting before cooking which I had noticed when passing by the kitchen. About 20 minutes later, she asked me if I had moved the longganisa because it was missing. I hadn't. Searched everywhere for the unopened pack and it could not be found. Yes, I have two cats and they wouldn't touch half frozen meat, never mind the plastic wrapper. This Monday, she came to me and asked if I had forgotten to buy the longganisa the day before with the hotdogs. No I certainly had not forgotten. The hotdogs were still in the fridge, but no sign of the longganisa. Just another mystery I guess! |
