Default Philippines 13A visa for Brits

Hi,

I want to live in the Philippines as my wife is their, I understand that I can get a 13A visa, And after a year apply for the Perm residency, I have some questions regarding this however; would this mean that I can own Land not property by actual land when I am a perm resident am I afforded the same rights as a Filipino citizen regarding this? And also would I need to give up my UK citizenship in order to do this?

Foreigners are not allowed to own land. End of. I'm sure that many will respond giving examples of how you can overcome this. Your wife can own land and you can own the structure on the land is my understanding.

Rent first if you are at all uncomfortable with your wife owning.
Also, she cannot sell the property without your signature.

The only way a foreigner can own land is if the wife dies Without leaving a a will, the land then passes to the foreign spouse for a reasonable period until the spouse can dispose/sell of it. There is no definition of what 'a reasonable period' is.

No visa gives you any rights apart for residency you need to become a citizen. If you get your 13a ahead of time in the UK it will be permanent less hassle and half the cost overall.

If you get the marriage visa do you then become liable for tax on your worldwide income, as opposed to the retirement visa where you don't?

The Philippines currently only tax philippine earnings so no worldwide taxation.
