He's the smiley new teacher teacher straight from college replacing the grumpy old one. So the plus is he doesn't grate on you as much as the previous incumbent did. But generally I agree with previous posters that it's a pretty shambolic start.

He came in with no policies...except for agriculture where he's trying to update his Dad's. Making much of it up as he goes along. Talking up the country's growth prospects to "middle income". Wants the Philippines on the UN Security Council. Though we knew he was going to continue the pro China policy he is also trying to improve relations with the US. How long can he keep that up?

A cabinet with three important positions without a full time or permanent head. His right hand man, aka " The Little President" has resigned. Unsurprisingly long term he wants to weaken the already weak bodies which try to counter corruption. His lack of support for Human Rights was obvious before election.

But I give him marks for dropping the public face masks. Good he ignored many of the experts and went with the business advice on that. A decision over which the previous incumbent shilly shallied. Let's see if covid does another wave whether he will continue to make sensible decisions on it? But in some areas where he knows nothing and is not interested in he may well be capable of making good decisions.

Seems to me he's already very happy at restoring the family to power and anything else he achieves he will see as a bonus. The usual uncritical public support and deference, nearly all the politicians in the country sucking up to him, relations, including his actress sister, batting away for him in government and Congress.

Keep an eye on the VP. She asked for an extra P100bn each year for 6 years to "fix" basic education. But she tried to keep control of 500M Intelligence funds. I don't see those two getting along in the future. A marriage of electoral convenience.

One last thought. Isn't he really near average when you look around at the political leaders in post now around the world?

BBM adding to President and Agriculture Secretary scouting abroad for investment in the Philippines. Starting with F1 in Singapore. Getting overstretched?
I suggest that people with an interest in watching gas guzzling racing cars may not be the most suitable to bring new technological investment here.
Or would he like to see F1 in Manila? A testing course could be devised!

The problem with bringing new technology here is that all the engineers/specialists have to be brought here as well as local expertise is very rare.

Certainly as he's already created a number of hostages to fortune....cheap rice, more productive agriculture and now inward investment generated from his various trips abroad. Ah, but the previous President created more and bigger ones, the supression of drugs and crime in 3-6 months, on ending corruption, bringing in federalism, ending contractualization, ending red tape in Govt services, defending territory in the W Phil sea. He ended with the highest approval ratings for a Philippine outgoing President.
You can say that Marcos is different as he had little in the way of policies and so these promises will stick out more. And that he's not doing well compared with Duterte on appointments and early resignations. But It may just be that people here don't care about promises not being kept.

BBM now pushing the Philippine's space programme. What?
https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/10/19/...curity-economy
The previous president started PhilSA in 2019. But after that nothing heard about it.

Read recently that BBM sees himself as a frustrated scientist. But is it going to mean much more than putting up satellites for monitoring land use etc? Security? You would think the US already feeds West Phil sea information to the government?

He just wants the Philippines to take its rightful place in the world as a world power. Also starting up the Morong power plant. It's all about ego. I wonder if you can pressurize a jeepnee.

To be fair Philippines does have a space programme but the satellites don't last long out of the last three that have been launched from the US have what the Philippines called 'deorbited' to the rest of the world crashed with 6 months of launch.

I started my working life in the nuclear industry and the Bataan power station was a standing joke then, not only did it have exactly the same designed reactor as Three Mile Island power plant but when the IAEA did a post construction safety audit they found around 4,000 faults with both construction and procedure. Since then it has been sitting there doing nothing being 'maintained by experts'. If that gets fired up I would not like to live in central Luzon, especially in June to September.

They sight the three remaining similar units still running. What they forget to mention is how many times the control system have been upgraded over the years. It would be cheaper to send in the bulldozers and start again. Perhaps if they ask nicely China would build one for them. Luckily for us there's a great big volcano between us and Morong.

Unfortunately the volcano will not stop the fallout dust, forgot to mention earlier it is build nearly directly above a fault line as well, bulldozers best idea for it.

Yes it was never more than a folly. 600Mw is tiny. Just one north sea wind farm is 1.3Gw.

He must have given the nod to this. Another attempt to promote himself. As if the election still on.

Marcos snr's biggest problem was his wife. I' m sure she's schooled junior well in taking up his rightful place in the Philippines. I wonder if he will go quietly at the end of his term.
