When we look back at the pandemic and the various mandates that were invoked I am sure conclusions will be made about the following;
Self serving edicts to promote financial gain.
Mandates made without thinking through the consequences
Not being honest with the general population

With regard to the first two above, the environmental problems concerning the disposal of face shields springs to mind.

On a positive note my asawa as a health professional, i,s as I write on her way to receive her booster jab.
All well and good in the big bad metropolis, but will vaccination targets be met in the Provinces?

I would add to these 3 over reliance on the military and their mindset.

The local govt cabinet member making the dining in appeal to Mall guards is ex military. As are about one third of the administration .As if the people at the doors were military at the entrance to an army compound.

That's interesting, both the asawa and I are due for our boosters. We'll have to make enquiries with the barangay health office. Do you know what booster you asawa has received. We will be looking for Pfizer as that is what the UK is giving.

Bearing in mind at the moment boosters are only for category A1, Healthcare frontliners. Her first two jabs where OAZ and her booster was Pfizer.
There is a list on DOH website detailing who gets what booster jabs.

Only 107 more cases announced yesterday, at 1,297, but 4 labs were late and 133 cases, more significantly, were held over. Positivity 3.4% from 42k tests. A similar number in preparation.

Recoveries 2.0k

Deaths 305, 278 RDs.
Another splurge of delayed deaths. The DOH say 136 were from October and 107 from September.

Latest deaths, by date.

Deaths 5 days ago.

Not much difference to the downward trend lately but now some "fattening" showing in September.

Active 22,158

Severe 2,703, down 216. Critical 1,152, down 91
Large downward change, total now below 4,000.

NCR ICU 32%, up 2%. National 34%, down 1%

Regional data:

NCR 231
CV 143
WV 135
Cag 121
4A 101
CL 86
CAR 86

NCR down by 84 and only 17.8% of cases.
But there were increases from CV, by over 100, and WV, by 50.
These top 3 regions with 39.2% of cases, down.

Cagayan added 58.
The top 6 regions at 63.0%, down.

Elsewhere Bicol had 44 more to report 85.

Face shields:

We went around the Tagaytay area yesterday and visited 3 large establishments.

People outside in streets and market areas mostly now without face shields, but some hedging their bets with them on but tilted up.
In the one supermarket we visited hardly any to be seen.
In one large hardware emporium the same for customers and staff, but in another all the staff had them on, though only one or two customers did. Shields useless there as it is very large and not crowded.

Maybe late to be told but workers in some establishments might now be being ordered by management to keep them on?

One other thing I noticed is a general lack of interest by staff at entry. At all 3 places you could get in without the various formalities, as there was either no staff there or they were not watching.

It's all very busy now in this area but in our Brgy nothing has changed. A loudspeaker roving every morning advising people to stay in the Bahay!

Dr John lately resuming his Vitamin D campaign.

Generally beneficial, but with specific regard to Covid 19 increased levels correlated with reduced severity and mortality, the spread diagram below showing this for mortality:

Green line shows best fit for the inverse relationship between mortality (vertical axis) and vit D levels (horizontal). The other 2 lines were for the hospital and non hospital populations which made up the total population for the study shown with the green line.

Dr John deals effectively with the counter argument that covid itself reduces the vitamin D.

He give some useful advice, especially for those in countries like the UK in winter, to supplement their vitamin D levels.

But for those of us in sunnier climes some might need to supplement also as you're still at greater risk of low immunity if you have darker skin and, of course, don't go out in sunlight. Since that's the way we get most of the vitamin.

I think many Filipinos living an urban middle and upper class lifestyle here must have low levels .And also ladies generally here. Especially the younger ones. In my experience mostly scared of exposing their skin to sunlight.

Just read that businesses in alert levels 1-3 can still mandate face shields according to the IATF.

Think people will tend to avoid all but those where they make sense to be mandated... crowded small supermarkets and Malls.

Nearly 200 more new cases announced yesterday, 1 lab late and 21 cases held over. Positivity 3.5% from 43k tests. In preparation 38.6k.

Recoveries 1.4k

Deaths 277, 230 RDs

Active 23,200

Severe 2,784, up 81. Critical 1,183, up 31

NCR ICU 32%, unchanged. National 33%, down 1%

Regional data:

NCR 416
Cag 141
4A 124
CV 111
CL 84
Zam 79
CAR 67

The NCR added 185 cases over the day before to have a higher 28.0% of all cases.
Ten other regions added smaller numbers of cases.
The top 3 regions had 45.8% of cases, up.
The top 6 with 64.3%, also up.

12-17 Vaccination:

Over 8k have had their first vaccination:

https://www.gmanetwork.com/news/news..._picks&order=5

A start but will they get them all done before a possible resumption of face to face classes? No target specified so far but there's over 20M here to give 2 doses to.

A vaccine committee in the UK recommending young people who have already had covid wait 3 months, rather than the existing recommended 4 weeks, to have their first (or in some cases in the UK their second) shot. To reduce the already small risk of myocarditis.
Not something likely to be done here.

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/u...o-17-year-olds

Here there is a main vaccination programme moving out provincially, then for adolescents country wide, boosters just started for health care workers, with other priority groups after that. Boosters will follow for other groups supposedly once certain targets on the main vaccination roll outs have been met in any LGU area. For many provincial areas that might be a long time,
Add supply issues to all that and you wonder how the LGUs and the individual vaccination centres will cope with all these different groups to vaccinate?

Over 750 more cases announced to have 2,227 yesterday. They included a large backlog of well over 1k. Two labs late and 2 non operational. Positivity at 2.8% from 39.9k tests. In preparation 35.3k.

Recoveries 3.2k

Deaths 175, 147 RDs included.

Active 21,101

Severe 2,743, down 16. Critical 1,161, down 9

NCR ICU 31%, down 2%. National 31%, down 1%

Regional data:

NCR 429
CL 351
4A 351
Cag 211
SOCCSK 175
IL 97

The NCR with 139 more cases at 19.3% of all cases.
CL added over 250 and 4A over 200 so that these top 3 regions made up 50.8% of all cases, down

SOCCSKSARGEN reported over 150 more.
The top 6 regions had 72.5% of case, up.

CV reported 70 more at 87.

Vaccination roll out:

https://www.gmanetwork.com/news/tops...n-drive/story/

The general in charge bullish about what they can achieve in the 3 day event at the end of the month. Considering that the latest total of doses administered so far here is about 33.5M doing 15M in 3 days is a stretch. Encouraging mistakes and crowd problems at the centres.
Along with most in charge here he is still a believer in reaching herd immunity, the idea now being seriously questioned by the world's experts.

I'm afraid all this bravado revolving around herd immunity, is, going to end in tears. I foresee in the not too distant future the freedoms enjoyed by those not vaccinated will be terminated.
On a positive note all those in A2and A3 categories can now receive booster jabs. Those with J&J 3 months following their one and only jab and for the rest 6 months after receiving their second dose.

15 million in three days, in their dreams. Without looking in up I don't think the UK achieved more thank 800k in one day and that's not for 3 days in a row, even the USA onlly managed to average about 2 million a day. Just imagine the logistics required to reach 15 million in three days, let along having that much vaccine available.
