I receive a widow's pension from my first husband's employer, they started sending out yearly requests for proof of life about 6 years ago, I was only in my late 40s at the time so presume they had a change of policy. Mine can be counter-signed by a huge raft of people (bank manager, postmaster, doctor, employer etc), but I just get our local justice of the peace to do it.

They've finally swapped over to sending it by email (and allowing it to be sent back by email) after they kept going missing in the post between the UK and Australia. But as I said, that was from a private pension, not a state pension.

When I return my form, for either State or Works pension. I include the front and back pages, of the last Sunday's newspaper. Signing my name, next to the date. Why Sunday Paper? The back pages, have overseas sports results. Easily checkable.

Yes, I'm below 75 and I seem to get one now and then. There hasn't been a pattern. Hubby turned 75 this yr . He expected to get one. So far nothing arrived. He called them a few days ago and he was told that there won't be one.

Off topic, but that's a beautiful Irish Red Setter. Looks just like one of mine

So expect yours to arrive soon. There is a sixteen week allowance, for replying.
I fear the sixteen week reply limit maybe too short, a letter posted from UK on the 5th November arrived here on the 11th March

I have just completed a Skype call with DWP International, Newcastle. I spoke to a very helpful lady who completed my Proof of Life during a five minute conversation.
If you are interested I suggest you make a call precisely at 16.30 Phils time as the UK office opens then.

Tks for this info.
My husband phoned DWP a few weeks ago as we thought the letter from them may not have arrived. He was told that there is no life certificate required this year. Today the letter arrived. Usually this won't be an issue to get it done. The country is shut down but for food supplies. We haven't got Skype calls either only old fashioned messaging.

Skype is very easy to download on to a PC or smartphone. Cheaper to a UK landline than local calls in the Phils!

I have just done the same, approximately five minutes also.

The number is: 00 44 191 218 7777 Option "1" They were extremely helpful, and quick.
Five minutes on Globe to UK, is a lot cheaper than special courier.

Certainly! My LBC'd certificate cost P2,300..and took 10 days to arrive. If I had had to use a Notary Public the total cost would have been nearer to P3,000!

So I wonder if International Pensions can move to telephone certification as the regular way in future?

If they did, it would be harder, to eliminate fraudulent claims. Checks are easier, with the paper based systems. Especially, as you have to back it with ID.

When I completed my Skype Proof of Life conversation I was left with the distinct impression that they have a lot more information about me which was not disclosed.
My other pension providers happily conduct Proof of Life checks online. Also HMRC transactions are internet based. Perhaps DWP and HMRC share data. Wouldn't that be a surprise.

My husband won't trust them with the phone certification. He called to find out whether he will have to do a life cert. this year as there was none last year. He was told NO. 2 weeks later the form arrived. How reliable are they?
We are in Austria at present and got it signed. Now just need to do a trip to the post office.

Post office and courier service not available in the area in which I resided during the current lockdown, which is now going to last until the earliest 30 April. So the telephone call was vital.
