I've just joined this site today, I want to help you, from my experience the first point of call is the Embassy/Consulate or Diplomatic outpost, so in your case the British Embassy in the Country you are seeking assistance, they have a list of Approved Lawyers, Doctors and Dentists, they also have names and addresses of Ex-Pat organisations along with other usefull info they will hand to you, they may even have a downloadable list. I'm afraid there are no cheap lawyers, but many out there who are just there to grab your money and do nothing for you. So I strongly advise you to go there first.
