Default Moving abroad

So this morning I was having a debate with a colleague about if we were to relocate overseas if we'd want to ship all our belongings with us or whether we'd take only the essentials and start again (costs permitting of course...)

Lots of things weighed into our opinions including the familiarity for us (and in his case the kids) in having your own things around you, especially those with a sentimental factor and the chore of having to shop around (i'm one of those rare people who hates shopping, do I have to hand back in my 'girl card'? ) and wait for deliveries of all new things when you'd have enough to do settling in a new country?

On the other hand a move overseas could be a fresh start and an exciting new opportunity, would we want a whole new set of belongings to go with it (if we could afford it)?

What do you think?
