Hello from Auckland

We arrived 6 weeks ago and starting to settle in. The removal company were great (Sterling Relocation), packing was brilliant, very informative re paperwork, custom etc. The containers going to be a bit late, beginning of May.

Ours flights were late circled Dubai for 2 hours before landing due to fog, connecting flight to Melbourne couldn't land so got delayed again, then got to Melbourne and there was a security scare and then more delays we arrived 7 hours later in Auckland to be told that one of our suitcases was still in Dubai.
Got picked up and by the time we got to accommodation everything was closed so had no food, no car, no credit left in our mobiles and really tired, sadly spent the next day trying to sort out the suitcase saga, eventually two days later we got it.

The accommodation is ok but did not having full kitchen facilities and a freezer that was not working (binned $50 of meat) as expected has meant we have had to eat out/takeaway lucky found this quite cheap, but we are moving into new digs soon so :D.

We bought a car a few weeks back, we move into a our new house/unit end of April which comes with fridge/freezer,dishwasher and washing machine, a garage and storage room and comes under our weekly budget which we were surprised at and it is in Devonport and immaculate.

We have had to buy a Hoover, sofa bed, kettle etc for new pad, but everything was on sale so saved a fortune, some things are quite expensive but sales are the way to go.

Well sorry for long update, but basically settling in well, really enjoying it and having the ferry to Auckland 15 minutes from door is brilliant.:D:)

what a awful journey over but glad you have settled ok. We spent a few hours in Devonport on our look around Auckland last year and must say very jealous as it seemed a lovely place to be.

Devonport is good, Narrow Neck & Cheltenham beaches are on doorstep, we have just moved right next to shops/cafes in Devonport so rarely use the car now. Downsides are it is a bit quiet, getting in and out during rush hour is a bit mad, but if we need to go to Takapuna/Albany etc we just wait till later.

Was down the Domain area last weekend, for rugby, and had a wander about - all very nice. People do say that Devonport is lovely when you are there. It's just the getting in and out that's a bugger.

Wouldn't mind one of those houses down there. Popped into the Navy Museum and snarfed a cappuccino in the cafe.

And it's nice and flat, just with a couple of big lumps. None of this manic up and downing like around here.

Just for a giggle we went into New World as well. OMG the people are so different! Like buying your groceries in Knightsbridge. I'd forgotten posh people are so entitled to push straight past common people like me.
