Default 3 months in and tickets are booked ........

Hi all, well were 3 months in, and what a fab time we've had..... untill reality kicked in. Arrived in Auckland 12th June, stayed Remurea for 3 weeks while OH did his Regs course (He'a an Electrician). Travelled to Whangarie ( Promised our 3 boys we'd go to Zion Wildlife Gardens) had a fantastic time, made our way down to Rotorua, loved it, even the smell...... you get used to it , then to Hawkes Bay, where, we intended to settle. Very quiet job wise, and after being in Auckland, whitch we all loved, middle of everywhere, everything going for it, we headed back. OH got a job 2 days into looking with a very good firm, but we were in temp accom in Beach Haven, which made it a nightmare to comute to work.We didnt move here to spend 3 hours a day travelling to a job.( I got a job in Mangere )Moved out of our holiday rental to Hillsborough, but you know, to cut a long story short, we've loved it, it's been an experience, if we were rich we would stay, even earning $85,000 between us,( me, part time,20 hours) we just cant afford to stay, and yes you can move outer city where it's cheaper.........pay less rent but more child care and petrol and have less family time and we didnt move here for that, we came for a better way of life, however putting our children in "Holiday clubs" and spending less time with them is not the way forward. We feel we were far better off in the UK, with one income, and the boys having a mum to come home to. Some of you might say we havent given it long enough, but sometimes you just know, we have savings...... if we stayed we'd have none, Really dont regret anything, and if anything a really good thing has come out of this, OH has promised to stop moaning about "Pakistanis, welfair and them bleeding it dry",LOL, His motto is "if it dont concern me, why worry. We are one, and dont be put off by us, everybody is different, but this is our honest update, Deffo come back for a holiday, sue xxx

Good on you for giving it a go.......we've got no regrets about coming home to UK, like you we could have stayed longer but choose to come home rather than watch our savings disappear. Now looking forward to having hols in NZ as well.

Hi Luvwelly, we were very lucky, money wise, house sold april 2009, money in BNZ savings account may 09, good rate and changing it back.... would like to say that we've made, but were only £5000 down, so not bad for a 3 month adventure, good luck to you in Welly. suexx

Hope the UK brings you happiness, you don't know until you try, we needed to return to the UK to remind ourselves why we came, 2nd time round poorer but wiser, best wishes hope it works out for you! At least you did not have to wait 6 months like we did for the rabies quarantine, have you got jobs to go back to?

Hi Janeyk, OH is a spark, and has a job lined up, we really do love it here, not once have I felt homesick or missed family & friends, the grass is greener, but just not prepared to work like dogs and have no family time, might end up being a ping ponger yet really hope it works for you, good luck sue

Have just read this.

All the very best for your move to the UK Sue1234. You've obviously both thought it through and are doing what you feel and know is best for you and your family. Fair play to you I say. I hope you re-settle well.

Hi Sue, having just read this I can appreciate the feelings you must have gone through. Having had difficulties since we arrived I feel for you and no exactly what you are saying! Yes you need to give it time(and reading other posts and the lovely mails I 've had from the kind folks on here), but like you we have a small amount of savings and we dont want to use them up just to live here! But on the other hand I think 'you just know'. Yes it is a VERY expensive decision and we definately did not come here to be 'rich'. Suppose what I am trying to say is 'How long?', and NZ isnt for everyone. We have not given up on NZ just yet but the jury is out
Just wanted to wish you and your family all the very best in making the move and making the brave decision thats it not for you!
My hubbys also a sparky, and I think they unfairly(like plumbers) cannot get PR without requirements and it costs alot to fund yourself doing the regs etc.
Anyway I am waffling now so will shut up.
All the best Sue
