10 days in Orewa
Frantic but productive! Bought a car and a UTE, set up personal bank account, got NZ driving licenses, 2 teenagers enrolled at college and 16 year old has part time job in coffee shop. met great neighbours and had barbie at their place, applied for a few jobs, arranged training for "Hire a Hubby", joined the great library, daughter enrolled at dance class.
Just the highlights and luckily we had already bought the house (on the internet) yes we are mad, starting clearing the jungle like garden.
Been to Kiwi car boot sale and saw Hot rods on the beach. Sourced some potential work for Hubby.
Very content especially after 7 years in France everything is so much easier hope it continues

Well you have been busy. Welcome to this side of the world.
Hope you've also found your local theatre: Centrestage Theatre behind the Council offices on Centreway Drive . I shall be there all day today for a rehearsal of Barnum, not that I'm in it. I'm Mrs Props!
The theatre also has a youth theatre group if you're interested. Hope you've been to the TipTop Ice Cream shop

Re: !0 days in Orewa
When my brother worked for the internal affair, he used to commute for full two hours every morning and evening. catching two buseS to Auckland downtown, ,, poor boy often fell asleep in the bus, sometimes he got off in Orewa on his way home..,,,, (my mother said that sad story,, how tired he was,,, ) leaving home at 7.00 am and come home at 8 pm........of course often no breakfast and late dinner all the time - that makes him fat. . Life style in Auckland is horrendous - you spend 4 hours commutes.........why live in NZ?
I am not saying Orewa is awful. it can be a nice place if you are retired or have a job in North Shore. but if you study at Auckland university or have a job in downtown, then its not worth it.

I like Auckland. I found Welly to be very oppressive.

That'll be the 'no language barrier' thing. Totally get that - the good news is it takes a long time for the novelty of communication being easy to wear off.
