Default Suggestions on where to socialise, pubs, gyms sports etc?

Hi Everyone,

May I apologise for jumping in but I am hoping you can provide some advice.

My son who is 25 years old moved to JB a week ago from Newcastle for possibly 2 years, he is currently residing in Bukit Indah and is a bit lost at the moment not knowing any Brits, what to do, where to go etc.

I am hoping for suggestions on where to socialise, pubs, gyms sports etc.

He is also looking to a bit of looking around Neighbouring places in the coming weekends so again any ideas of safe places would be appreciated.

Any help would be appreciated and once again my apologies for hi-jacking this thread.

Regards

Jim

Hello Jim
I wouldn't worry about your son... there are plenty of Brits around his age over here, at the school and probably at the three UK Universities (he doesn't work at Newcastle Uni Johor does he??).
Having said that I've no idea where they'd all meet up for a beer... but someone will be along with some advice soon, I bet!

A foray into Singapore is very easy from here, and cheap if you go by bus. That's probably where the best "action" is....

If he plays squash there's a very friendly club in Taman Pelangi in JB.
When I lived in JB I usea to play for them and one match we had was against a British Hong Kong police team.

A few years later when we moved to HK the house we eventually rented was previously rented by the guy from the Police team whom I played against.

Hello Geedee,

Thank you for your reassuring advice, he dosen't work for Newcastle University but is working in that area with a new sports centre which is currently been set up.

It would be good to hear from anyone who works in the 3 Universities.

He is planning a weekend in Singapore for early February.

Many Thanks

Jim

Hi Lamps

My hubby's thinking of setting up a tennis league of sorts. Would he be interested in that?

Hi Bobcat,

I know he has played tennis in the UK as he has a tennis racket back home, as yet we do not know his working hours until the centre opens, I will mention it to him.

Many Thanks

Jim

Great - just PM me his number and/or e-mail address and when Mr Bocat finally gets round to it I'll add him in if he's keen!

Thanks everyone,

I have passed on all your comments to my son who is slowly settling in.

I have booked a trip out there towards the end of March to which we will spend 3 days in JB/Bukit Indah, then fly up to Penang for a 3 days, then finally onto Kuala Lumper for 3 days including the Malaysian Grand Prix.

I am really looking forward to visiting.

I might bump into you, you never know.

Thanks

Jim
