Default Moving to Nusajaya in March 2015

So if you are arriving internationally what is the easiest way to arrive from k.l airport to Nusajaya? I have been looking at accommodation how easy is it to organise once you arrive? Where did you stay prior to you accommodation being ready? Does anyone recommend after school activities for children in the area? Is there anything you wished you had known prior to you relocation. I was thinking of looking at leisure farm as a place to stay do any of you have any experience of it?

I hope you can help or direct me to the right place.

Nicola

Nicola, there's a load of existing threads in this section on most of the questions you have raised, especially Geedee's recent topics. Do have a browse through this section.

Getting from KLIA to Nusajaya, I would've thought that car hire might be an option? Maybe others have some other ideas. Not sure what Geedee did.

Thank you for the quick response. Still scouting around the boards. Anyone who can give me up to date responses I would be grateful. Also if anyone has brought a cat and gone through the quarantine process and had an agent at the Malaysia end. I would appreciate your advice on your experiences.

Hi Nicola,

Re flying to Nusajaya from KL - there are three airlines flying to SENAI Airport which is the local Nusajaya / Johor Bahru airport (on most airlines' websites you will find the airport under 'Johor Bahru') - the airport is around 20min from Nusajaya by taxi/car.

- AirAsia flies from the KL Budget Terminal to Johor Bahru / Senai Airport.
- Firefly flies from KL's Subang Airport to Johor Bahru / Senai Airport.
- Malaysia Airlines flies from KL International Airport (KLIA) to Johor Bahru / Senai Airport.

Regarding hotels: a nice hotel is TRADERS HOTEL at Puteri Harbour, Nusajaya.

I don't have children (only a dog!) so can't help you re children's activities.

Good luck!

PS: regarding places to stay at. Most expats stay in either Horizon Hills, Leisure Farm, Ledang Heights or East Ledang.

Nicola

We've been here a few months.

We arrived Singapore and crossed the border by "taxi".

If you go to KL you can fly here, as Nusajaya said, or you can get a cab. I don't know what the airport taxis will charge but our local guy offered to do a run there for MYR600, about 120 quid. It would take 3 to 4 hours I think.

We brought a cat and a dog in as "cargo"...... we used a specialist in Canada, who in turn used a pet import agency in KL.... I can pass the email address of the lady in KL if you like. As it's just one cat, it will be cheaper to bring as excess baggage... a lot cheaper.... where are you coming from?
Quarantine for us was 7 days; the lady in KL ensured they had aircon kennels. Then she drove them to our house. They looked a bit bedraggled, but happy to see us!!
Good luck!

We are looking to bring our cat as excess baggage but I have to say I am nervous 4 children and one cat. It sounds fun ahhh! We need someone at Kl end to help so the details would be great. How long from arriving does it normally take you to organise accommodation? My husband has a job at the university. Which of the precincts would be the closest. I am leaning more towards Leisure Farm but that is just based on hearsay and internet searches. We want an initial one year contract. We are travelling from the Middle East so the flight is quite long so I am hoping that the cat copes ok. He is a rescue cat. He landed on our door step and never left. He is huge but a nervous cat so I am worried how he will manage the flight.

There are (or will be) 3 universities here... Reading, Southampton and Newcastle. I think they're all near each other. All the estates are close enough, and there are no issues with traffic jams that I've noticed (this side).
Leisure Farm is pretty, but a bit lonely! The lots are big, but the people don't seem too friendly here, to be honest (except the guards, they're a nice bunch).

You'd have more accessible neighbours at East Ledang or Horizon Hills.

It took me about a week from offer to securing this place.... a recce trip would really help, if you can.

The trip from Middle East (Dubai?) is about 8 hours I think, so your cat should be fine. Mine were travelling for 28 hours! Our cat is well travelled though!

When are you allowed PMs? I'll drop you the email address of the lady who looked after ours.

28 hours wow no I can't beat that. Yes the flight is about 8 hours so we should be ok. Just tying things up this end and then resettled there. I think I should be able to accept private messages now. I will have another look at the housing again. No previsit unfortunately. We will just have to go with the flow. Let's see how it all goes.

Hi
Firstly I am new to both the site and thread

We are relocating to Nusajaya (East Ledang) in March and will be bringing two dogs with us

We searched for rental property on the internet and have managed to do the whole arrangement by email. The agent provided additional photos of the property (don't part with deposits, most reputable companies will agree to financial transactions being concluded on the day you take possession of the property

I had a really good conversation with KLM customer service tonight, there is no quarantine from UK to Malaysia (not sure about Mid East) the dogs will be delivered to the special luggage office at the arrivals hall at KLIA for collection after you collect your baggage

I got this information off the internet

Pets entering from other countries except Singapore:

An Import License issued by the Director General of Veterinary Services or State Director must be filed before bringing pets into Malaysia.
15 digit ISO 11784/11785 compliant microchip.
Your pet cat or dog must be vaccinated for rabies between 30 days and 12 months prior to entry into the country. A USDA (or CFIA) accredited veterinarian must then complete the Veterinary Certificate for Malaysia for endorsement by the USDA or CFIA if traveling from the United States or Canada. If you are not traveling from either of these countries, the Governing Authority of your country responsible for the import and export of animals should endorse the forms.
A copy of the Rabies Certificate should also be included.
This completes your cat or dog passport for Malaysia.
Quarantine:
Upon arrival from any country other than Singapore and the rabies free countries listed above, your pet shall be placed in quarantine and may be vaccinated with approved anti-rabies vaccine and detained in quarantine for compulsory period of not less than seven (7) days (10 days for dogs and cats entering from Australia). Your pet will be released if found to be free of any evidence of infection. However, where deemed nescesary, the quarantine period can be extended up to six (6) months based on risk assessment on a case to case basis.

In relation to transport, hire a car with a satnav, it's a fairly easy drive on motorway style road

Agree that best hotel initially is Traders at Puteri Marina,

Hope this helps, happy to repost when we have completed the adventure and settled in

Hi there and welcome to the forum. What visa are you coming in on? Will you be working in Singapore?

Thank you to everyone for all the advice re our move.
We have booked the cat in to quarantine in KL then he will be delivered to us. My husbands work has organised accommodation for 2 weeks so I am hoping we will find something in that 2 weeks. We are planning to hire a car when we get there . So we are just left to pack up in the Middle East and move across.
