Johor - tell me why
C'mon.... why do you like it? Talk to me.
Where should I visit? What should I see? What should I eat?

Hi all
For visiting, the botanical gardens and old sultans palace is supposed to be nice. I say 'supposed' because it's closed for landscaping and renovation until next year!

I think I saw Danga Bay mentioned elsewhere recently. Is that near JB? (Yes I could google, but feeling lazy )
By the way,not planning any current trips at the moment, just interested to hear about Johor and why people like it.

One thing I like about JB is I find it much more walkable than Penang was I my visit. The driving also takes much less skill than Penang (I don't think I could make it a week in Penang with a crash).
There are many great places to eat (not different than KL or Penang there - both probably have even better food options but JB is very good).
It is a bit short on must see tourist sites. One I like, it is small, Indian Hindu Glass Temple:
People are excited about Lego Land. And there are a couple more theme park things opening soon (Hello Kitty, some water theme park...).
There seem to be a fair number of golf courses for people that like that. There are also basketball courts around for the more sensible people - though these seem less popular. There are some bowling alleys. At least 1 paintball course (in Danga City Mall).
There are some arts things but they seem to take the approach of underground clubs - keep them as secret as possible and the hip people will decide they are cool and seek them out. I am not sure if they have the part of people seeking them out working yet. In general the businesses and organization really haven't figured out how to use the internet to their advantage.
There are a couple Europe related university campuses opening (I think) - Newcastle... There are a couple big hotels (big enough to likely bring in more conferences, events...) opening in the next year or two.
There are some nice natural getaways fairly close (several less than an hour I think), that I need to take advantage of but I haven't yet so I don't really know... Some beaches, walks along the river, through the forest (I think)...
Also a bit further out are Melaka and some beach stuff toward the East.
