Expatriate Mental Health/Sports Psychiatry
These services will soon be available in Johor for anyone who needs to see a psychiatrist and would like to be seen by a native English-speaking, British psychiatrist trained in the NHS with actual personal experience as an expatriate. The service is not restricted to expats; English-speakers of all backgrounds including Singaporeans are welcome. This is not a profit-making venture. The service is supported by the Malaysian healthcare system so there is a small charge for foreigners which is still considerably less than private hospitals. Due to the small numbers of patients expected and the absence of financial pressure, there is also the benefit of a more personal experience with a lot more time afforded for appointments than would be the case in a private setting.
Sports practitioners who have mental health and substance misuse issues will also soon be able to have a dedicated specific mental health service run by an actual sporting psychiatrist who is one of less than 100 members around the world of the International Society for Sports Psychiatry. Sports Psychiatry is not the same as sports psychology which is about sporting performance. Sports Psychiatry is about addressing the mental health and substance misuse issues of sportsmen which, in turn, may have an effect on performance. Do feel free to PM me for further information.
