Condos are not an option for us with a big hairy dog to think about!

Not sure if your question is a general one or specific to Johor. If the former.... Over the last 10 years and 4 countries, we have bought house, then condo, then house, then condo. I guess we are due a house.....maybe.
It's swings and roundabouts isn't it. Condo living is easy living, low maintenance. Less exotic wildlife especially on a high floor. Usually better security. Possibly cooler on a high floor. All the problems with sharing with others in the building.....and condo issues.
House living.....the big plus is it's all yours....garden, pool maybe. Hotter at ground level.
