We are here at last
Well Hello!!!!
We are here at last and have Internet access!
As you all know we arrived New Years Eve and sorted out a rental.We are in Cleveland as we had registered Hayley at School from the Uk back in August at Ormiston to start Jan 27th yr 11. The school is about 10 mins away by car and within easy access to trains etc.
I love it here - we have a nice rental although it cost more than we wanted to pay but its 4 bedroom small pool overlooking the water (views to die for) is nice and clean.There was very little choice which may be due to the fact it was the xmas holidays.
We have met Jez, Laura, Sophie and Jacob who live about 10 mins away and we all get on really well and we see each other often.
Tass(Rebecca) John, Samantha and Matthew came to see us today and we had a lovely time. I've spoken to Tass most days as we were a few days apart throughout the whole application process.They live in Sydney but have driven to Brisbane for a holiday.
I'm not working yet.... but will start looking soon.
We still haven't sold our house in the UK :scared: but hope the market will pick up soon!

Good to hear you've all settled in nicely, sounds a lovely location to be living. You must post some piccies like Jez!!
We are still trying to sell our house, had 2 viewings this week, first since end of November, so hopefully things are starting to improve.
Off to London for the weekend this afto, thought we'd show the kids the sights before we leave.

I really hope the housing market picks up! we really need to sell the house!!!
I will post some piccies having some problems sending emails today as we have just got broadband its so slow compared to the Uk one!
Think I will have to get Jez to look at it!!!!!

We have had 2 since end of December,Everyone says "Its on our short list" then we hear nothing
Everytime I see Jez hes in shorts
he does a mean BBQ though!!!!Nikki x

Hi Nikki, glad to hear you are settling - Jez has been keeping me up to date.
I'm settling well in Melbourne - start my new job on the 7th of Feb - seems good, people friendly and a job I'm used to.
Hope to take a trip up to Brisbane in the near future, so maybe we can all catch up over a drink.

Its good to hear you are settling in so well! I like the fact that you don't have a job yet!! Sounds good to me! Where are you hoping to get a job? What speciality do you normally work in?
I am hoping to get application DHl'ed on Monday as have got everything together now - I am working solidly till next Thurs though so its just finding a night to package it all together!
As Lisa says, try and get some photo's posted asap of your house etc.
Keep us updated of your progress!

glad to hear all is well and youre settling in.
let me know how your kids get on at school, im hoping to get our kids placed in a school before we go, but we will see. got to pass my conversion in 6wks first!! eek.

Seems a long time since you last posted. Do tell us whether things are meeting your expectations - is it how you imagined it to be?
Look forward to seeing piccies - we have a pool in the UK so we can beat yours. Trouble is ours has got grass underneath it and is supposed to be a back garden!

Lynn- Another step nearer its great to get the application off then its the meds and police checks.
I work in Oncology I was a Macmillan GI Nurse Specialist in the UK so really need to work in Oncology.I'm not sure where I fit in over here so it will be a case of a few emails and see what response I get.Otherwise its back to the wards I go :scared:
Trish-Hayley really likes her new School it is a private school as I needed to get her into year 11 and choose options as its like 6th form in the uk.
All the kids are friendly and they love her accent they keep making her say "can I have a cup of Tettley Tea!" and they think she looks like "the chick from the princess diaries" She says she prefers it to her old school!Shes only been there 2 days!
The work is stuff shes done in the uk at the moment so she will have a good start.She gets lots of homework shes doing 6 subjects and has 4-5 hrs per subject per week!
Richard- I really liked Sydney when I visited in August and I was scared I wouldn't like Brisbane but I like it better than Sydney as its much more laid back here.I love the area we are in and its nice to have a few friends here.Today is a sunny not a cloud in the sky day again!
Its very exciting going to visit new places and exploring there seems more things to do mostly because the weather is so much better.I certainly am very happy here at the moment and feel all the hard work to get here was worth it!
I still have that holiday feeling at the moment so will have to see what its like when I start work and life is more normal.

We finally got our application in and the money was taken from my account 20/01/05. So no going back now

Not posted on here for ages as I thought our plans to go were over as I was unexpectedly unwell over christmas but things have turned out ok and its all sys tems go again we are looking at living on the bayside too and are comimg over on Feb 19 for a couple of weeks to look at schools etc
Which school does your daughter go to I have the prospectus from Ormiston College but James is 14 so I doubt he will get in as it seems really popular
As I am a midwife I have arranged to meet the DON at a couple of hospitals while i am there in Feb and have a look round and suppose I will have to actually get a job when we come out for good. Flying out on June 30 but have a 2 week conference in July so dont want to start work until September
anyway its good to read that you are settling in hope to meet up with you when we get there. Have you seen any Huntsmans yet My teenage daughters are paranoid about the prospects and I keep telling them bug control is so good they neednt worry (all toes and fingers crossed while I am saying it !) anyway enjoy the sun !

Hayley goes to Ormiston College.We had the house sprayed EVERYWHERE before we moved in and I haven't seen any spiders!I haven't seen anything horrible.
We don't even get bitten by mozzies.The only time we have had bites have been when we have been inland (and have not sprayed with Areoguard) sat out late at night.
We don't spray when we at our house outside or at Jezs and haven't had any bites.
