Default Record keeping! The exam topic!

well its arrived, the topics for my conversion exam on march 16th. We had accountability or record keeping, the latter has less guidelines to remember and reference so won us all over!
any advice you can offer, easy ways of remembering atleast 15 references for the day would be appreciated! :scared:
Any other info would be greatly received.

cheers

Trish

thanks sarah, you are a star! only prob is, we have to know the refs by memory, as no notes allowed in the exam and no ukcc refs, they have to be nmc now.

well as its on record keeping, your main starting point shoudl be the nmc guidelines on record keeping - look at their website - and let it follow on from there; what the nmc say should be the main part of your essay as thats what our legal thingy is based on (if you know what i mean). look at the nursing times website and search their archives for recent papers/articles on record keeping, as their articles will all be based on the nmc rules, and you will soon find it easy enough to remember the references. How many words does your essay have to be? or is it as much as you can write in a set period?
good luck....

hi sue,

ive downloaded the nmc guidelines so hopefully should be ok. We get 1.5 hrs to write our answer, we know the question will be generally based on record keeping, as mental health nurses etc will be sitting the exam. just hope theres nothing about auditing....im useless at that, but there is a bit onit in the nmc guidelines. There isnt a set amount of words, its just got to answer the question really, so about 4pages worth i reckon??
thanks alot sue, really appreciate your input.

The main document you are looking for is

NMC (2002) The Code of Professional conduct. London, NMC.

Check out that Bridget Dimond book because it might refer to the NMC not the UKCC.

You can start the essay by stating the role of nurse - need a reference.

Talk about advocacy - how keeping good records ensures safe care for the patient and helps your collegues.

Erm, not sure what else you could include but hope this helps a bit x
