Default Planning ahead - UK to Canada

Hi All,

I am an adult trained nurse with one years post reg experience within A&E.

We are hoping to move to Canada and are currently torn between Alberta and British Columbia although my partner is also wanting to consider Ontario I am no so sure myself. Process wise from having a look at posts on here I can see that it takes a while. I also understand that the chances of my degree being comparable are slim. Could someone please talk me through what the process is.

Am I right in saying my first step is NNAS? What comes after this? Am I right in saying there is no point in looking for work/home etc until I have my license for my chosen province? I understand that this is a costly process as well as being quite longwinded which is fine as it enables me to gain more post reg experience.

Final query - If I have to do a bridging course (and I am assuming I will) Can this be done in Canada and if so can my family move with me? can it be done here at home? would you say its easier to secure a job if I was in Canada on a student visa completing the bridging course (assuming this is an option).

Thank you in advance for any help!

Rickelle

Correct NNAS is the first step. Before starting that process you need to decide where you want to live and work as I believe NNAS will want to know which provincial college of RN to send paperwork to. Most if not all employers will want either pass in NCLEX or eligibility to sit NCLEX before offering a job. Also jobs are mostly heavily unionized and mostly getting your feet under the door requires starting either casual or part time. Each province is different but theory top ups may be done online. Clinical may be done in the UK if you can get the college to agree to it and someone in the UK to facilitate it. If you have to come to Canada you probably need a student visa and working in healthcare you will need a medical
