Default paediatric registration???

Hello,
I am hoping to emigrate to Oz as soon as we can get there, but am getting a lot of conflicting advice from my migration agent and a recruitment company regarding registering. I've been told by the nursing agency that I can only register as a paediatric nurse in Queensland, hence I can only move to Queensland.
Does any body know if this is correct? I'm very confused about the whole process and cannot seem to get a straight answer.
Can anyone help????

hello,

ok, here goes. i'm a paeds nurse working in qld and have only nursed paeds, but...... here in aus, you are a registered nurse and when you apply for your visa, you apply as a registered nurse and can practice in all areas!!!! yup! when i'm told i have to move to an adult area i say i cant but they tell me here in the eyes of qld i'm a registered nurse.

i just go to the area tell them i only have paeds experience and i usually just end up doing obs. however saying that, im thinking if i can work anywhere then i'm going to try something new either a an e or recovery....no night duty!!!

as for the agent telling you you can only work in qld cant se that myself and it was never mentioned to me during our visa process that i'd only be able to work in qld!!

good luck

Nonsense! You can work anywhere you like in Australia ! Once you have registered in a particular state it is very easy to obtain interstate registration which enables you to move around if that is what you want to do. I trained as an RGN (long time ago ha ha) then I did the RSCN but I am an RN here in NSW and can be re-deployed to adults, although it rarely happens. RN Child Branch nurses cannot be redeployed within my hospital as they have not been adult trained much to the annoyance of the aussies who being RN have to go where they are told... hee hee. Actually it rarely happens that we are sent elsewhere and it is usually to special care or maternity which are in the same block

I am a paediatric nurse and are registered in NSW as a Registered nurse. It does however state on my registration that I am restricted to paediatric nursing only. I have friends who are also paediatric nurses that have been registered in VIC and WA.

Hi,
Thanks for your replies.
I cannot believe that I was told this information. I'm now in the process of registering with the QNC as I though this was the only place I could work. Will definitely not go with the agency that told me this info, as I now don't know what to believe!!!!
Whereabout in NSW are you hoping to work?

I am hoping to work at sydney children's hospital in Randwick. I did 3 months there whilst travelling in oz on a working holiday maker visa. Although there is 2 children's hospitals in Sydney, so depends where OH gets a job. Good luck with your search for jobs!

Hi, I'm a paediatirc nurse but specialise in neonates. I've been offered a neonatal job in Queensland but not gone down under yet.

When I was appling I was told by my agency that I would get a registration but there may be a few restrictions on it like I may not be able to work with adults. My reply to that was I don't want to work with adults!

As long as you have the experience for the jobs you go for, there should be no problems and just remind them of that if they offer you a daft ward.

That's interesting. I work on a neonatal unit at the moment, so should think that is what I will do in Oz. Which hospital have you been offered a job in? I have an interview with QH in London in June.

The Mater in Brisbane. Finally got the last piece of evidence of my ward manager for registration today after around 1 1/2 months of asking. According to the Mater the last few people got registration around 3 months after sending off, so then after notice and hols etc I may go down around october/ november.

Good luck with your interview.

Are you going to get your own permanent visa, or rely on a temporary visa organised by agency?

The ideal would be to get a 136 visa, but unfortunately I do not qualify for that as I currently work only 15 hours/wk, and the minimum required is 20.
I have an interview with QH in a few weeks and they have said about the 457 visa. It is not ideal as I have 2 children and have read about the restrictions on this visa, but at the end of the day, we just want to get out there as soon as we can!!!

Don't you think it would be better to get a permanent visa even if it means waiting a little longer and/or going to another state?

(lots of problems with Queensland employers insisting on the 457, employers in other states are more flexible).

Yes, in an ideal world, I could increase my hours and wait for the 136 visa. However, my work are aware that I am going to Oz, and when I asked if I could increase my hours, they said no. That is when I decided to go down the sponsorship route..
Thank you for your replies
