Default Nursing jobs-Canada

Hi,

My husband and I are looking for RN jobs in the Alberta region and also in the area and surrounding areas of Kelowna, British Columbia. We know that there are tight restrictions with recruiting in Alberta Health Services at the moment, but can you advise us of hospitals having recruitment drives at present or in the near future. My hubby works in Coronary Care (12 years experience) and I work in A&E/ED (also with 5 years acute medical/surgical assesment unit experience) We have UK and Australian nursing registration.

Thanks.

Alberta has a big hiring freeze on at the moment and several members who work in Alberta have posted about this on allnurses.com in the Canadian forum found under the International forum of the region tab. Have you sorted out application with the province college of RN's as most will probably ask for eligibility to sit CRNE. Depending on your transcripts you may have to do some form of assessment but hard to predict as it does vary on your transcripts. Have seen some UK nurses post in the Canada forum on here that they have had to do SEC as well as post about job situation so may also be worth checking that out

Hi

Concerning the recruitment of UK nurses, last Monday I got an email from the recruitment officer that brought me from London, UK to Calgary. I was inquiring about one of my colleagues from the UK who wanted to join me here but in her reply she mentioned that Alberta Health Services is not recruiting any international nurses for at least a year to two.

It does not sound good but unfortunately that was her reply. Not only from the UK but all international nurses.

I understand other provinces are recruiting UK nurses as from nurses from different provinces.

Bye

Right now, all of Canada is critical for nurses as many have left for the states. You can actually now get moving expenses paid and sign on bonuses. You just have to apply and see if the hospital will sponsor your visa.

Are you sure on this? Alberta has a hiring freeze and in NS I am seeing less and less jobs advertised. Also seen on another site another province having problems with nurses due to many moving provinces opposed to the US

simply not true. In Alberta, for starters (& I know BC is similar) there are no jobs for new IEN applicants (they have been honouring those already inthe system, that's all.)

I'm sure it will change when the current regime has finfished destroying what it has but until then there's definiitely a freeze on recruitment both from within Alberta & abroad.

Yes it IS true in Halifax, NS. I was just there in November and they offered money for RN's and LPN's to relocate to that area. Maybe in other areas it may be different, but you can even go on the nursing website for Halifax and they stated that they will pay up to $5000 for moving expenses.

That may be so but the OP is interested in Alberta or BC, your statement that ALL of Canada is critical for nurses remains not true.

Well actually we are short of nurses, that is true, but they're not recruiting any in Alberta or BC.

To tack on this thread. They arent even filtering through people in the system. We have our registration, job offer and LMO but Alberta have stated no job now and they will contact us about reclaiming our expenses.

So i would say Alberta is a bust flush for a few years
