Would be great to meet up at the Joondalup Tavern

Having not done surgery since my training it was strange for me- but I'm getting used to it now and will work anywhere (even did a night on maternity the other week!)

Re: Which Nurses are going to Perth?
I'm an RMN originally from the UK, but now living and working in Hamilton, NZ. Me and the family hope to be in WA by the end of the year. I've applied for a CMHN job in Rockingham, and the application process finishes today, so hoping to hear soon. I went on a 4-day visit to Perth and Rockingham/ Mandurah area at the end of May. I would certainly recommend the Mandurah/ Rockingham area, as it is developing very quickly and a new train link is currently being built. The motorways are also being upgraded and there is loads of develop going on.
I had a look at Graylands ( Forensic Service) and wasn't that impressed. The CNS who showed me around put me off a bit when he told me that are a lot of old-timers who continually whinge. I know that's normal within the health system, but to be told that within a few minutes of meeting him, I wasn't that impressed! Also, the roster system is fixed: 4 days on and 2 days off. I'm in that system at the moment and there isn' that much flexibility, not like the UK anyway. They could also move you onto any shift and any ward from one day to the next. Again, not much flexibility and continuity. I was told that there is going to be a new acute in-patient unit being built in Rockingham in the next couple of years, so there does seem to be lots of investment in MH services, which is always good if you want to vary your career.
I've already applied for and obtained my registration. I'm hoping to be sponsored so does anyone now if I need to apply to the ANC for skills verification? Would appreciate the advice, so if so I would do that ASAP.
If anyone is thinking about moving to, and working for Waikato DHB: DON'T, it's crap (especially the mental health side).

Re: Which Nurses are going to Perth?
Have just applied, on the internet, for a job at Joondalup Health Campus!
It's not in the area where I specialise, it's in their medical unit.
At least it's a start

Joondalup Health Campus
Julie Rossiter. She asked me when I was planning to go over there, and where I was going to live (wonder if she was gonna offer me somewhere to stay, lol!)
She said she would pass on my Resume to the surgical dept managers. She also said, when I do come over, to pop into the campus, and they should be able to sort something out for me

It works like the 'bank' in the Uk. We have priority over agency staff, so if I ring for work and they have already booked agency, they will cancel the agency.
I usually get the shifts I want, I ring up the week before with my availability and more often than not, they book me straight away - if not, they ring me asap and tell me they want me!
I've been there since last September and it works really well for me. Hubby works away sometimes so at the begining I couldn't work. I've since got a babysitter so it's fine. Even so, don't think I'd go permanent, unless the work dried up!
It's great because if something comes up with the kids at school (assemblies etc) I can work round them.
When my mum came out I took the month off (hubby wasn't impressed though!) if I'd have been permanent I would have had to use A/L.
Hope this helps!
Good luck!

Re: Which Nurses are going to Perth?
My wife has just been offered a job at level 1.8 and on a salary of $56,000.
We are still at least a year away from having our visa.
