Australian qualification

Hi

I am a first year student in Australia (Perth) studying Bachelor of science(Nursing).

I am 29 and found that it was time to have a career change and this is something that I have always wanted to do.

We moved to Perth in OCt 08.

What I am wanting to know is when I qualify as a nurse, if I was to go back to the UK could I work as a nurse, is the qualification recognised?

Does anyone know the difference in earnings in UK and AUS?

Thanks for any help

N

Hi there, good for you on your career change.

Yes your qualifications are recognized in UK, although you may need to take an Overseas nursing program (only a short course) and an English test, even though you speak English [(Uhmm!) I know]. It's the same in Australia now too for overseas nurses coming into effect this year. This link may help (below)

http://www.rcn.org.uk/support/pay_an...009_-_2010This is a link to pay rates, if it doesn't work try searching on

http://www.rcn.org.uk/. You need to find out what an RN 1. is equivalent in bands??

Hope this helps, good luck, you'll love it I trained there.

Thanks so much for the info it is great, I was just worried incase we decided to go home after I got my degree and was afraid that once I got there and applied for jobs that my degree wasnt recognised. Hopefully we wont be heading home but it is just incase.

Thanks for the links as well I am just about to take a look at them now.

I cant believe you many need to do an english test wow Regulations these days. If the time was to come and we went home I would have only been out of the uk (Northern Ireland) 4 years :rofl: All the same it is good to know so thanks.
