And back to the OP. I love living on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, it's great. There's plenty to do. The weather is much better than where I used to live in the UK (St.Helens & Burton-on-Trent).
I used to suffer very badly from S.A.D in the UK but it's much less severe here.

It's generally a safe topic of conversation though. I don't think anyone's actually that interested in the weather, it's just an opening gambit

I suffer from SAD aswell, its only the last year or so that i've actually realised. Blue skies make such a difference to my moods.

yep absolutely.. took a year or so to settle... kids completely at home .. summers are lovely, folks are nice, winters are wintery .. whats not to like ? PS $120k - you'll walk it

I think the Aucklanders have managed to create one of the most boring cultures there is among Western countries. However, I am glad that I moved to Auckland because now I am able to appreciate Europe much more. Also taught me how much I love my family. I never want to be so far apart from them ever again. Happy to leave Auckland soon.
What an ignorant person. Do you actually understand what history means and where cultures derive from? You've actually made me shake my head for worry about your utter stupidity.

Do you use those lamps? I used them a few times to Help with early mornings in winter and jet lag. They were brill
