We're (the British) obsessed.
It's generally a safe topic of conversation though. I don't think anyone's actually that interested in the weather, it's just an opening gambit

And back to the OP. I love living on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, it's great. There's plenty to do. The weather is much better than where I used to live in the UK (St.Helens & Burton-on-Trent).

I used to suffer very badly from S.A.D in the UK but it's much less severe here.

After me joking about me not being able to say your area i had a nosey at it online. It looks a lovely place!

I suffer from SAD aswell, its only the last year or so that i've actually realised. Blue skies make such a difference to my moods.

In Auckland, there's only 3 types of weather:
1. It's raining
2. It just rained
3. It's starting to rain

(except for this summer, natch )

Assanah - your ignorance astounds me. 'Aucklanders have managed to create one of the most boring cultures there is among western countries'.

What an ignorant person. Do you actually understand what history means and where cultures derive from? You've actually made me shake my head for worry about your utter stupidity.

Sorry everyone, that was a bit harsh. But I'm still shaking my head.

Our NZ European history is your European history! Surely everyone understands that? We just had a few more adventures on the way.
