Working Holiday visa - job prospects?!
Hi there,
We have been considering a year in new Zealand and wondered if anyone could give us some advice about job prospects for a working holiday maker? Are there any particular areas where we could easily find a job or any particular types of jobs available?
Im a teacher (but realise i wouldnt be able to teach on my travels) so anything education/child care based would appeal.
My partner is a radiographer (and again we know he wouldnt be able to get a job in this) so anything hospital/healthcare based would appeal.
We also have experience in offices (filing/computer filing systems/general office work), finance (invoicing and payment), bars/restaurants and shops.
Many thanks for any replies!

Welcome to the New Zealand part of BE.
I would suggest that you checked out the Immigration site as they seem to have a fairly good page with suggestions on

best of luck

I've seen a few ads for au pairs in Christchurch. For backpackers jobs check out:

Also have a look at SEEK and agencies within where you are going. There's also a fair bit of cleaning work going. A lot of them will offer a room in return for cleaning and light admin work. If you arrive at the right time you can have a look at fruit picking jobs. Although it's not easy work! It can be quite tiring but worth a go! A lot of hostels will have local jobs advertised too. I've seen quite a few cafes asking to assistants.
Good luck!

There are tons of jobs, depending on what you are willing to do. Whole segments of the NZ economy rely upon transient WHV labour, tourism and horticulture in particular.
If you are looking for work that encompasses your roles from th UK, I would suggest having a look at the job section on www.trademe.co.nz
