Work related query.

Hi, I'm seriously thinking of getting away from the UK in favour of a new life in NZ and would welcome any views or advice any body could give me.

I'm 43, married with 2 children, a 16yr old daughter and an 11 yr old son.

I'm a time served carpenter but am currently employed as a surveyor by a timber and building preservation company specialising in commercial and domestic remedial repairs for Wood Boring Insects, Fungal Decay and Structural water proofing.

I know that 'Rentokil' have an operation in NZ, but would appear to be more in the pest control area rather than the areas that I'm used to.

My wife is working currently with special needs children (4 years old to 11 years old) in a teaching capacity in a primary school.

Any advice as to work situation in these fields would be gratefully accepted.

Thanks in advance.
Dan

Hi..
sorry i cant be of direct help, but have you looked on the NZ immigration website to see what skills are ont he short term skills list. Also look on there to find accredited employers who may be in your field of experience. I dont know what the licensing requirements are for teachers, maybe somebody onthe forum will know

good luck

sorry, this comment is gonna be almost useless but it might trigger someone else's memory - there was a website recommended on here some time back which enabled you to find out about the different work areas in NZ, forecasted demand in the field, some ideas re: salaries (I think) plus other really good stuff - cannot remember it for the life of me - might be worth a search. will see if I can track it down.
Good luck
Vicki

Found it: http://www.kiwicareers.govt.nz

and this one for salaries http://www.emigratenz.org/Work.html

Hi,

when you say "in a teaching capacity" do you mean she's a qualified teacher?
If so then take a look at http://www.teachnz.govt.nz - they claim they need teachers and will pay up to $7000 in relocation after you've worked for three months. She'll need to get her qualifications assessed by NZQA before she can work though.

My wife is also a special needs teacher - just sorting ourselves out to move to Wellington, I'm going at the end of July, with her following at start of Spetember.
