Re: work dilema
Sod it, be happy. Money isnt everything especially if your in a position to have a choice, you say jan will support you no matter what so thats great !
You could always go back to your current job in the future if you changed your mind, im sure they'd have you back!
I can see why you fancy a change, being a digger driver is boring most of the time (according to dave) so he went for a change aswell.
Just have a good think before you rush into everything but i think you should go with your gut feeling.
All the best.

Re: work dilema
Life is not all about money
I chased the money back in England, leaving a very safe comfortable job in the city for a position 100 miles away because it was paying double the salary I was previously on. It was awful, commuting on the M25 i something I wouldn't wish on anyone! On top of that, clients of the company I worked for found out I used to work for them so they wanted me out of the position. Then came the biggest excuses to remove me from the position, not that I cared. I was all lined up to come here when they made me redundant
Learned from that experience. I took a huge pay cut to come out here (I was still employed by that company when I accepted the NZ job offer) and morale levels are now back to where they were whilst working in the city.

Do something else, especially as Jan can support you. Life is too short to be spending so much time doing something you're bored of.
Is there any job that you have always wanted to do or a subject you've wanted to study?
Any jobs out there that look interesting?

Driving a truck sounds like great fun, also imagine all the freebies when things fall off the back of the truck. Just tell me when you are transporting a load of nice single malts ta .

Iv,e had some heavy duty jobs over the years that carried some stress i quite like the idea of just tuning up in the morning picking up my truck and buggering off

good on you for going for it. I re-trained at the age of 37; now have a stimulating job but can always fall back on the old career if needed.
