Woburn - Wellington

We're about to move from Auckland to Wellington and my wife who's working there in the week has found a very nice looking property in Woburn.

I'm off to take a look with our kids this weekend but just wondered what the 'locals' think of the Woburn area?

ooh er, very POSH there! Just check out the prices of the houses on trade me for an idea.

I think the main reason it is very popular is the high school in the area.

Nice tree lined avenues, close to shops and good transport links but no harbour views.

I guess this area must have changed a bit over the last 30+ years as two people who were wellington born but left a long time ago said it used to be a bad area?

Not knowing Wellington that well, can anyone give me an idea of driving times at peak hours from Woburn into the CBD by car.

I'm told there is a very good train service in from there too.... anyone know journey times etc?

By car in rush hour, I would estimate 20-30 mins depending on where exactly you are heading (including parking at the other end :-)

By train, excellent regular trainservice: www.metlink.org.nz also about 20 mins from Woburn to Wellington station. From there you will find most buses to take you across town or walk as the cbd is farily compact.
