Default Winter's over!

It is, it is!
I know this because:
  • Three times this week I haven't bothered with a fire
  • There are buds on lots of trees
  • Asparagus is sticking its head up in the garden
  • No frost for a couple of weeks (sort of)
  • I saw kids leaving school in boardies barefoot on their BMX bikes today
  • The camelias are blooming and the daffs and snowdrops are putting in an appearance
  • I got hot under the feather duvet (when asleep and alone, before you all start )
  • My daughter has taken off her onesie

It's OVER, O-V-E-R

Hope you're right, seems to have been Winter here for about 14 months now.
Last night was first frost free one for ages, only because it was chucking it down with rain!!
Good dump of snow on the Ranges this morning, & only 7.8 degrees today.
I remember the freezing August, September & October we had here last year so I won't hold my breath

Very mixed messages here, it was bitterly cold on Sunday and we're back in the rainy season but I do have one daffodil in the garden and next-door's Magnolia is in flower, so it might just be Spring already.

Nah, it's still winter. I know this to be certain & true because the weather's miserable & so am I.

The weather is a bit miserable still, true, but much more like early spring miserable than winter miserable. It's an important distinction. Cambridge outdoor pool opens in 12 weeks!

Sorry you're feeling miserable though Vital- my husband is having a rather homesick phase, which isn't helped by the Olympics. Is this what's bothering you?

I'm still having to wipe the puddles of condensation off the window sills and mould off the roof

Oh and found loads of mould on my fabric boots.

Still, the new house has insulation, double glazing and gas central heating. So next winter will be a skoosh.

The rent on this shed is daylight robbery. Our rental in the UK was just as bad although at least it was warm.

I'm not sure it's homesickness to be honest. I think it's my age ducky . Think I'm going through a sort of mid-life crisis & feeling very hormonal

Sorry that your husband is feeling homesick, it's such a horrible feeling. I had a really huge bout of it two years ago now. It was horrendous for me but also for my husband.

I planted loads of freesia bulbs a couple of months back & they are coming through . The daffodils are being a little more reticent

I really dislike this time of year, which is why I'm desperate for it to be spring asap. And I start thinking about Queensland and then we have a little look and see the job opportunities for my husband, the salary, the perks and we both feel a bit miserable for a wee while, until spring comes and we're reminded we prefer the more temperate climate most of the year and we prefer NZ to Australia mostly.

It's crazy though- it's a wonder there are any mental health nurses in New Zealand!

I hate winter too & can't wait for spring You're obviously a glass half-full person whilst I'm the opposite . I like to think of the worse case scenario & figure that it can only get better from there

Not sure about Queensland, it goes dark very early there in summer with no daylight saving. But I did like the area around Brisbane where some friends of ours live.

Be thankful you have hormones woman . Some of us ran out of them a while back.

Not sure Winter is over here yet. It is still very nippy and we are needing to light the log burner still. That's even with me hot flushes.

Camelias and daffs are out. This is true. I think they are confused though as I've seen ground frost this week. Mind you I held a real newborn lamb last week

I want Spring now ! Having a birthday in winter sucks.

You are welcome to have some of my hormones

We are still putting the heat pumps on morning & evening, cos it's a wee bit chilly.

Newborn lambs are so sweet, mind you I like most newborn things, it's when they get older that the problems start

Some of us have had to put up with winter birthdays for decades . Harden up

With all the public sector cutbacks it's a wonder there's any left in Queenland either!

It must be spring because I've started cleaning outdoors I've been outside since 8am jetting off the deck, washing down the furniture and dragging out it into the sun to dry. I love this time of year, there's still a nip in the air but the sun is gloriously warm and strong.

True, there's heaps fewer jobs advertised than a couple of years ago but Kiwi nurses are still hopping the ditch in droves to take up temporary and permanent posts, so they're still there. And just like NZ, Australia loves the UK trained mental health nurses.

I'd miss the daylight in Queensland though- we stayed in Brissie for a couple of months a decade ago (think it was August/ October time) and I did miss the light evenings. Also, I don't like humidity so as my husband reminds me I'd be moaning all summer long rather than all winter long there

Vital- I'm both a glass half full and half empty but when I feel miserable I tend to just sit around and sigh, mope, eat chocolate and kind of be miserable on my own; I'm not likely to come online then tbh.

I'm with you Boubon- Biccie. Never mind early spring! I'm from north east (Sunderland) & today has been like a UK summers day here in Porirua, 14 - 15c blue skies & lots of glorious sunshine
So chin up peeps!
