Default WHV. Still in the UK . Waiting to come over

We've just received our WHVs - and have 1 year from the date it was issued to arrive in NZ. We then can stay in NZ for 12 months from the date we arrive. (We're UK based-don't know if it's different for different countries)

You can "upgrade" your 12 month WHV to 23 months, whilst in NZ. This is entirely possible, you just need to have a medical check done.

Thanks, this was originally a reply to someone asking whether a WHV started from the date you receive approval or when you arrive in NZ.

I'm now in NZ (arrived 1 month ago)

British citizens can upgrade their 12 month WHVs to a 23 month version while in NZ but you can't work for the final 11 months

Not sure that's correct. Where are you getting your info?

Welcome to NZ btw!

Yep, that's correct. A 23 month WHV only allows you to work for one year and study for 6 months. I have one

The info is here...
http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...idayscheme.htm

It was the medical and fact you couldn't work for more than 12 months that put us off the 23 month version

Ok, thanks! I really thought it would allow you to work for 23 months!
