Landline phone: Telecom or Telstra Clear. If you get the latter then you can usually get a cheaper raate on cable internet. I think, anyway.
Telecom was the only option for us as Telstra haven't put down cabling in our (new - still being built) suburb yet. Also we can't get wireless as Telecom aren't putting in any more exchanges and hubs (or whatever they are, I'm so technical - NOT! ) until the suburb is complete either.
So we had 2 choices - dial-up ( run away! ) or mobile broadband. We obviously went with the latter.
We use Genesis Energy, not sure who all the other companies are out there. They supply our gas and electric, and we just have a direct debit set up, so don't need to worry about bills getting paid.
Can't quite believe your moving date is coming up so quickly! Neither can you, I bet. I remember when your hubby nixed the whole idea, and now you're all moving.

You're headed to Christchurch, right?
Landline: Probably Telecom, but Telstra is an option as they offer a combo package of phone, internet and cable TV.
Internet Provider: Many to choose from, but Telecom is the best one to hate.
Power: Meridian is probably the biggest player here on the South Island.

From my experience and that of a few friends I'd say avoid Xtra broadband like the plague.
Orcon and Slingshot have both been very good for me. I only changed 'cos Slingshot are a bit cheaper.
