Who knew?
Oh man alive, I can't believe my eyes, my prayers to the Haribo God finally came true.
Countdown now have big bags of Haribo Cola Bottles, Tangfastics and Starmix just casually displayed among all the other sweets. It may be that they been hiding there for ages and it's only me that never knew. Not even at a premium price, just a fairly normal $2.99; unlike the Ye Olde English shoppes where they charge $4.50 a bag.
Now if you could all join me in a prayer so that they may get the Jelly Babies as well, that would be Tang-flipping-fastic.

Re: Who knew?
I have never found the chocolate to be awful, except for Whittakers Peanut Slab (yuck). So perhaps I am not the best judge. We notice more and more of Cadburys stuff (like Cream Eggs) are imported from the UK these days, as the factory here has been scaled back quite a bit I believe.
Don't know how long since you've been here, but theres so much more choice in everyday shops now than when we first came here; we have Terry's Oranges, Aeros, Rolos chocolate bars and all kinds now. None of which we saw five or six years back.
Most bigger supermarkets seem to pay some kind of homage to 'International' tastes with a shelf of UK and South African products at premium prices of course, if they are not part of their everyday stock. So many more things have become 'mainstream', McVities Hob Nobs and Digestive Biscuits since we have been here.
No Linda McCartney or Quorn in the mainstream, although I do believe some of these goods are now available in places like http://www.theenglishcornershop.co.nz/frozens.htm

Re: Who knew?
I think after a while these things grow on you, they seem odd at first but after a while your taste does change. We paid a small fortune a while back for a bar of imported Galaxy chocolate and it just tasted so weird, we didn't really enjoy it.
