Our removal company advised us quite strongly not to bother with whicker furniture as it was more hassle than it was worth in order to get it past MAF - It would also be quite expensive. So we didn't bother. Sell it on ebay - You can always buy more when you get here.

MOST CERTAINLY, ABSOLUTELY AND DEFINITELY NOT TRUE.

We were told the same and we had a large amount of furniture that had some wicker in it and a conservatory suite that was entirely wicker.

In total our stuff that had an element of wicker in it had cost us a lot of money and was less than two years old. We were told by two companies that we could not take it but thats not true. The removal companies say this to save THEM hassles.

All ours was declared and some inspected....all is now sitting in our NZ house.

Our MAF inspection at NZVL warehouse was for over 40 items and included much of the wicker but its no hassle and for a few minutes stood with MAF while they inspected it we saved the £1000's we would have lost giving the stuff to someone in the UK or selling it for the peanuts it would have got as 2nd hand furniture on ebay etc....

I think the key to it is if you bring untreated wicker in......most furniture has been treated so is fine.

We also brought in wicker items, not to mention wood artifacts from around the world & feather duvets.
I do wish that shippers would stop giving such generalisations on items such as these, and instead issue a leaflet re. NZ MAF and it's requirements.

If you are still concerned re. your perfectly good wicker furniture please do contact MAF via email and ask them.

Whicker is for old ladies that like cats and collecting newspapers and old baked bean cans as ornaments.

Alan Whicker = smart well travelled with a certain class

Wicker furniture = a dust collecting fire hazard that leaves you with a stripey bum should you sit in it for any length of time.

Nuff said!
