Where to visit in the North Island
Hi there,
I'm planning on going over to NZ in June for a long holiday combined with a bit of job hunting. We'll be doing some travelling round the North Island this time, having seen a lot of the South Island on my last visit.
Plan is to go to Lake Taupo and Rotorua but what other places are worth a visit. Know where I'll be moving to when the big move happens, just want to know about some good holiday locations. Thanks
Sue

Up at our end:
Bay of Isalnds
Warkworth/Matakana and Goat Island
Rangitoto
Auckland - yeah really, the War Memorial Museum, Sky Tower, etc
West coast beaches, hot pools at Waiwera
Whangarei and Northland
further south:
Waitomo Caves
then I'm kinda lost.......

Re: Where to visit in the North Island
Apparently due to the vast numbers of foreigners living there now, I believe they are making Porirua a national heritage site to stop Colonisation and it being renamed 'Little britain' - Passports will be required South of Pukerua Bay and North of Tawa....

Karekare beach I still want to see, its where they filmed the Piano, as well as where Crowded House recorded their 4th album...
Apart from that, Bay of Islands, Rotorua, Hawkes Bay areas, and of course Wellington (but avoid that Porirua place, its full of some really weird people...) and the Wairarapa of course

(In addition to Taupo and Rotorua) what he said. Once you've done the Bay of Islands if you're running sort of time it's probably not worth going any further north, do the Coromandel instead and maybe spend a bit of time in the Wellington area.
