Where on Lake Teana
 

Good Morning everyone from Dubai, and hello from a British ex-pat in another part of the world.

I’ve signed up as I’m trying to find something out about the painting I’ve attached here.

It hung in my Nans lounge as far back as I can remember (early 1960’s).

Although not signed I suspect it may have been painted by a relative as my Great Aunt emigrated to NZ in 1919, after marrying a New Zealand soldier after WW1.

The painting is of Lake Teana I believe, and I’ve been trying to find out where on the lake it is. If anyone can help, that would be fantastic. For now, Best Wishes to you all over in NZ!

I think you may mean Lake Te Anau. I was down there last November, really beautiful place and a great town with very friendly people. It's a large lake so I'm not sure where the picture is painted from. It could be right next door to the town of Te Anau or near the DoC hut further south or maybe Te Anau Downs which is north of the town. Someone with a better knowledge of the area may be able to help you more.

As the painting is of some age, it's hard to pick it against what is on the shoreline of Te Anau now.

The only places I can think that have two or more jetty near to each other would be right in town near the present day i-SITE, or at the Marakura Yacht club (and that has been there for many years).

I dunno if the shape of the land matches the painting though - assuming it is realistic?

If you google images for Lake Te Anau there's quite a few pics with similar view and shape of mountains in the back ground and jetty.

Thank you Bearskin & Bo-jangles, and yes, I agree, the images do match up with the painting.
So the painting is actually on the shore at the town of Te Anau.
I guess I’ll have to try and get there and see the view for myself now I know where it is!
