Thanks ever so much for your encouraging advice. I walked round Norwich city at lunch time like a wet weekend, now I feel more cheery, can't wait to show Rick this forum when I get home, he'll be chuffed to little mint balls!

Re: Where do we start
Hi everyone, what a little godsend this forum is, I've learned so much, thank you.
Hope someone can help us. We have made the decision that we would like to live in NZ. We've looked at jobs and there are loads that we are qualified for so that's great. Only problem we have is, neither of us have got any degrees and on looking at websites these are needed. Is this really so? We have qualifications in our field (IT - Citrix, Microsoft, MSCE) and doesn't experience count for more?
So what do we do first, go for work permit or residency? Also how long does the whole process take?
Can someone be encouraging and say we don't need a Batchelor of Science to get in.

Your right that your qualifications in IT are in demand. NZQA do not recognise any microsoft qualification however i would check out Comptia. My OH has microsoft qualifications and everyone he contacted whilst in UK were really keen for him to arrive but we had nowhere near enough points for EOI. So we sold up, came over as visitors, OH secured a job offer within days. We got a work permit and are in the process of submitting our ITA (enough points due to job). It may be your only way in but it works. Good Luck.

Hi,
In hindsight we should'nt have come at xmas. We submitted paperwork for work visa around the 15th Dec. We were'nt aware that everything shuts down for xmas. All of Immigration went home until the 8th Jan. Bearing that in mind so nothing was done until that date my husband started work on the 18th Jan. Im sure if you came at a different time it would be very fast as long as nothing is wrong with your medical.

Re: Where do we start
Hey Guys.
Just to say that we arrived with $ 500 to our name on a visitors visa, never been to uni. My IT qualifications were for Novell (anyone remember that?) and I had some experience as a sales rep in the IT industry.
All this was sufficient for us to get a work permit, valid for two years.
Now three years later, we have PR and I work in the wine industry.
From your skill set, I would say it should be "sweet as", just need some determination and a set of Kahuna's!
Good luck!
