Default Where to buy a PC?

We will be arriving in NZ (Auckland Area) at the end of next week. We are not bringing our desk top PC and our Lap-Top is in shipping, so won't be here for weeks!!!!

I Have been looking at a number of threads lately.... Not generally at PC's, but items in general...some people say Trademe, some people are finding cheaper buying direct??? Get confusing!

I'm sure alot of people were in the same boat when they arrived and as this wil be one of the main devices for contact with home, we would like one quickly.

Could anyone point us in a good direction.

Thanks Again!

Garry

Pricespy is a good guide to prices for hardware in NZ:
http://www.pricespy.co.nz/
Bought peripherals/components from:
http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?page=sys
who have a retail store on the North Shore and one in Glenfield, another in Penrose.
You could always go for a dell.........

consumer.org.nz recently did a survey on where to buy. Best results for the whole picture - ie advice, after sales, support etc - were the smaller dealers rather than hill& stewart etc.
It's actually worth joining consumer.org.nz before/when you come over (the UK which? equivalent), especially if you're going to be buying appliances etc.

Dell NZ, they are the only one's I have found to be as cheap as the uk & up to spec. ours was delivered within 24 hours.
Dual core AMD processor 3800+, 120GB hard drive, 512 ram, 256mb graphics card, 17" monitor, all for $1100. We found to get an equivalent of that in any other shop would cost between 1500 to $2000
Most of the PC's in shops are over-priced & of a lower spec than my desktop we bought in the UK 3 years ago.

Another vote for Dell - not the most exciting, but their pricing is ok and support seems to be better than most in NZ (now that IBM stopped doing desktops).

Or get a laptop from the Dell outlet before you come - half the list price and a three year international next day business warranty - if you want peace of mind that is....but I think the OP is running out of time on that one!

bottom line $4681.33 for a laptop I got from the Dell Outlet in UK in November for £900 delivered. Only differences werr the free offer here giving you another year of maintenance (4 over 3 - in 3 years it'll be in the kid's room if you're lucky!), mine was not a SATA drive and they give you a shoulder bag - bit of a pricey bag for about £800. A no-brainer really. LL
