When should I have the party?

OK... my birthday is coming up soon and falls on a Thursday in the school holidays.

I'm not sure about protocol... should I have the party on the Saturday before my b'day or the Saturday after?

What a quandry...

Not keen on Friday parties as it's too rushed to get home from work then get going. Plus I'm thinking of probably hiring a bouncy castle for the kids.

Thanks for all the input. In the end the date sort of got chosen for me as Wellington Anniversary is right after the weekend of the 19th/20th and it might be a nice time to nip away for a long weekend somewhere.
