Hello everyone, we've been looking into moving for a while & always come back to nz being our best option. I have looked this up but it gets v confusing with all the changes in season you guys get. Can anyone give me a real life overview of the weather slightly in land around from bay of plenty to hawks bay area? Especially in comparison with uk if anyone can remember. The summers here have been deteriorating over the last 5 or so years & are now almost non-existent. would like to choose a countryside location ( within an hr of a hospital ) with good schools nearby that actually has a summer! Also what's the winter like, any snow in this area etc. not really bothered either way especially but would probably prefer more warmth & a pool. Thanks.

Anywhere in NZ will have far better weather than the UK
we get seasons, cold in winter but it gets warm when the sun is out (yes the sun shines here in winter too)
warmer, rainy springs, usually lovely warm / hot summers that can last for a good few months.
Last Autumn was a damp one with to much rain but the previous one was more of an extended summer
that went on for weeks.
Dont worry about the summers, both BOP and Hawkes Bay get plenty of sunshine and both have great beaches for you to enjoy it on.

you wont see snow north of the desert road (Tongariro area), sometimes the Taupo / napier road gets some but its more
around the central north island, I think hawkes bay gets a little snow every now and again but nothing to complain about

Dont underestimate the strength of the sun down here, even on cold days if you walk on the sunny side
side of the street you'll feel it instantly start to warm you up (no ozone layer down here so slip, slop, slap )

Our first 4 years in Hawkes bay the weather was predictable, cold & wet Winter, warm & dry-ish Spring, Hot & dry Summer, warm & wet-ish Autumn.

But the last 18 months not so good, can't seem to string more than a couple of settled days together. Last Spring & Summer never happened, just stayed cold & wet. All the weather came from the East, instead of the West, so we didn't have the usual protection from the mountain ranges.

Hope it changes this year, but we seem to be going into a similar pattern already.

Strange you must live in a different hawkes bay to my friend who lives in Taradale!

Grant you the last summer was not so brilliant, but better summers than the UK. And Hawkes bay get the warmest summers.

our 5 years in the lower Hawkes bay was just great. Last year the summer was more British than kiwi, but in general the HB is warmer & dryer than the west. We do get a fair bit of rain every now and then and when the wind blows it blows, but give me HB over BoP any day

Well we do live 60k South of Napier & it can be very different weatherwise.
Summer was non existent, with hardly any sunshine, just grey wet & very windy!! January was the worst month with only 2 dry days.
Local folk were saying they had never seen a Spring/Summer like that before.
for this year.

That's where that crappy weather usually gets stopped, on the ranges

To the OP, that's about 40 mins from a hospital
