Spaghetti Bolognese, I made the Bolognese sauce yesterday so all the flavours could develop.

Leftovers.... spicy beef and cabbage and chillies and couscous.
(Yes I know, it sound pretty revolting. Maybe I'll chuck it in the bin and go get a takeaway.)

It was OK actually. The chillies gave it a bit of a kick

Re: What's for dinner?
Had an idea, with all the recent threads about money or shortages thereof, it's been a while since we had any threads on living within tight budget constraints and how people manage to eke out the dollars.
They do say you can tell a lot about people and how they live by the contents of their shopping trolley.
About us: We're two adults (and a cat) on a strict budget and we aim to spend less than $140 per week on all food, cleaning products and toiletries, so if you've had something especially cheap and yummy, it would be great to hear about it.
So here goes, my dinner tonight:
Leftover roast lamb from yesterday (very small fillet end was $14.50)
Mashed potatoes
Roasted Asparagus (exceptionally cheap at present 2 bunches $3)
Gravy and mint sauce

Slow cooked they provide excellent base for multiple meals?

I'm not on a particular budget currently but can certainly remember the days, way back when, when I was.
Do you get those tinned sardines in tomato sauce over there? They're everywhere aren't they? Very cheap and so versatile. Quite nice to heat and mash up, add loads of black pepper, maybe some chilli (I like spicy), whatever veggies are in the fridge, and add some cooked pasta. Handful of parsley on top. Yum yum.

Re: What's for dinner?
Having decided my post Xmas BMI would probably exclude me from NZ (if I was applying for a visa) - I make a large pot of veg stew (a bit of everything with a large dash of chili) which lasts 4 days each week.
Works well, is very cheap and is seriously easy (but seriously boring). 20lbs off in two months, 20 to go to be slim trim and waif like. Gives the wife a chance to eat disgusting things like kidneys and liver (a Northern girl at heart) :-)
