New Suzuki Swift from Hollands Suzuki was a little cheaper, Fillet steak, KFC/Macca's Pizza Hut (in fact most takeaways), Prescriptions, a recent kayak purchase, no stamp duty, rates (only just) Electricity (We seem to be paying less)??? water, plastic cheese when on offer, deli ham, seasonal veg avos, corn etc, car parking.

Parking
Water
Steak
Fresh fish
Garage charges
Toll roads
Fishing licences
Hunting licences
Camping charges
Speeding fines
Council taxes
Yearly heating bills

But then again the reason I came to NZ was sod all to do with market forces that 60 million people can create but more to do with the tranquility of life

How's about eating breakfast out? It's my favourite meal to eat out and I found it quite frustrating that in the UK it was either a greasy spoon cafe (great if you have a hangover, but not so good for a civilised late breaky in the sunshine) or somewhere hugely pricey.

I still think houses here are cheaper (which only goes to show how much it depends on where you come from AND where you go to) but I know that could easy start a million post thread, so I'll say in my little bubble world, housing is cheaper in NZ.

I'm amazed that place is still in business especially the Paekakariki branch - at least the Oriental Bay one has fantastic views! Food in both places is atrocious

No TV license
No stamp duty
No capital gains tax (though some think there should be)
No inheritance tax (ok, not really an everyday expense)
Are rates cheaper than council tax ? We pay equivalent of about 75GBP a month - don't know how much council tax is - obviously depends where you are in the Uk.

I think electricity prices are similar. I recently saw a link saying the average price per Kw in the UK is 14.5p. We pay around 28c/Kw here so the same.

When I left the UK in 2008 I was paying about £100 pcm in council tax for a two bed flat in Croydon and that included single person discount. We are paying around $540 per quarter in Chch now. So yes, it is cheaper for me!

Obviously it all depends on a lot of different factors:)

Yes, our £75 per month rates are for a 4 bed detached house in Auckland. So sounds like it's a fair bit cheaper than council tax.
