was really sorry and sad to hear your news. Ali's off the wall posts, humour and occasional rants are the stuff that i always remember when we first found B.E
the very best of everything to you all.

Boy you'll have your hands full with 2 young 'uns I don't envy you. My miscreant daughter is back in the fold and doing her A Levels at the moment so we're delighted about that. Unfortunately though our dream of going to NZ has been completely scuppered as Ali (Sega) has contracted cancer of the stomach and liver and I have now gone from being a librarian to a full time carer (yes guys it's that bad). His prognosis isn't good so I don't know what the future holds. sorry to hijack the thread with our bad news, most of you probably don't know who the hell I am but most of the respondents to this thread do. Just thought I'd keep you up to date cause we'll probably leave this forum now as we are no longer potential expats...
One thing I will say though... Thank God for the NHS.

Phyllis
Really sorry to hear that Phyll .....please say hi from me...he is such a great guy

You are right Oh is a doctor, and we do live in Rotorua - Gill dropped a note on my desk asking me to call in and say Hi - HI!! Glad you are happy Sarah B - its so nice to hear you are settled and happy. All is well in Sunshine's world too - my parents are applying for residence next month so fingers crossed as that will really help me feel more settled than I do. I'll call back in soon - and thanks again guys

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all your good wishes they are much appreciated. We're bearing up (just about). The fact that my eldest daughter has come back to live with us is a huge tonic (and a great practical help too). The kids seem OK. we're trying to keep things as normal as possible (hard at times with Ali bed bound), but the staff at the hospital where he had his chemo are absolutely BRILLIANT!! There's one young doctor in particular called Laura who's newly qualified and picks up on everything. Ali thinks the sun shines out of her (she's also very attractive so I'll have to watch him). He's being treated at Mount Vernon which is a fantastic hospital.

I may pop in now and again for a bit of light relief. I wish everyone well who's either in, or about to go to NZ. We often talk about the people on this forum and you are always in our thoughts too.

Cheers

Phyllis

Crikey Phyl & Ali - just read the news. Really sorry to hear. Sounds like Ali's in the best hands and I know he's a battler. I bet he'll give all those nurses a bloody hard time! Probably got them in stitches all the time! Don't give him a bell to ring though. He'll wear it out.
Fingers very crossed for you both.
All our love Mike & Sarah

Thanks for all your good wishes old forum people but I'm afraid Ali wasn't strong enough to fight the battle and died on 29th September. Bu**er!! Naturally we are devastated but being very well looked after by family and friends (particularly his mum and sister). It's been good knowing you all and I will still check in here now and again to see how you're all doing. I wish you all well on this forum and hope those of you that make it to NZ find what you are/were looking for (congratulations on your first year Joshlin BTW). We've been invited for a holiday in Adelaide, Australia by one of Ali's old school friends so we'll be nearer NZ than we are now. Still you never know, we might make it one day.

One thing we did say though during his illness (and I bear in mind what sunshine and rain said about palliative care in NZ), thank goodness he was in the UK while he was ill because he got the best treatment on the NHS and from the hospice (which only actually receives 20% of its funding from the NHS - disgusting!)

Some of you I have met in person or talked to on the phone and you've all been good people to know. Good luck in your lives and all my best wishes

Phyl

Dear Phyl,
as i sit here reading your post through my tears, i can't imagine what you & your family are going through. I hope Ali didn't suffer too much, i offer you my sincere sympathy.

God Saw You...
by Unknown

God saw you getting tired,
When a cure was not to be.
So He wrapped his arms around you,
and whispered, "Come to me".
You didn't deserve what you went through,
So He gave you rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He only takes the best
And when I saw you sleeping,
So peaceful and free from pain
I could not wish you back
To suffer that again.

take care Phyl, & family
lots of love

Phyl,

I am so very sorry for your families loss, I can't even begin to imagine the pain you must be feeling, sometimes life can be so very hard and unfair. My thoughts are with you and your family at this hard time.

Much Love

SarahB

"Remembering" by Elizabeth Dent

Go ahead and mention my loved one, the one that died, you
know.

Don't worry about hurting me further. The depth of my pain doesn't show.

Don't worry about making me cry, I'm already crying
inside.

Help me to heal, by releasing the tears, that I try to
hide.

I'm hurt when you just keep silent, pretending they didn't exist,

I'd rather you mention my loved one, knowing that they
have been missed.

You asked me how I was doing, I say "pretty good" or
"fine"

But healing is something ongoing, I feel it will take a lifetime.

Hi Phyl

My heart is with you as I read your sad news. It was so much fun to read Ali's postings (and actually speak to you both on Skype!), and I know your soul will miss him very day, but I belive our loved ones are always close. Stay in touch, please accept my deepest sympathy's and hugs for you and your family.

with Love
Shellie (Sunshine)
When the warmth of the sun touches my face,
I see your smile and feel your embrace.

I hear the whisper of love in the wind
And I know that you are close to me again

The rain speaks of tears and the thunder of pain,
But soon the sun comes the earth to reclaim.

As the days come and go and the world moves on,
I know you're still here, you'll never be gone.

On the night the Angel came and took your hand,
We cried as you left for an unknown land.

But Heaven rejoiced as you came into sight,
For your soul was a diamond, shining so bright!

Phyll, I didn't reply when you mentioned Ali's illness first because we didn't really have much contact and I didn't want to be presumptuous but I really am very very sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you and your family.
