Take off the rose tinted glasses and remember why you chose to leave the UK.
The place is a shithole, the ecconoy is screwed, the average joes like you and
me are ALWAYS the ones who suffer financially when another bout of taxes are
introduced. the poor get richer, the rich get richer and joe average pays for it
all. There is no respect left amonst any sections of society, everybody is out
to screw over everyone else for as much $$$$ as they can get. I lived in a
house for 14 yrs and didnt know my neighbours, the education system cater for
the lowest common denominator meaning anyone with half a brain sits and
stagnates waiting for the idiots in the classes to catch up.
Dont get me going abpout thieving chavs, gangs, drugs, fat girls who think its cool
to walk aroung with their ugly fat bellies popping out from under their cheap vests and
T shirts in the middle of winter. speed cameras, imigrants, lazy bastard dole cheats.
TBH if you go back you'll find that nothing has changed, everyone has simply
carried on doing nothing at all, you will be the only person who has got
anything new and interesting to say because you were the only one with the
kahoonies to get off your arse and make a better life for yourself.
Sometimes it isnt easy, nobody ever said it would be but its better than
being back in that shithole we used to call home.
Now, harden the f**k up and get on with your life.

I agree wholeheartedly and I live here. If we were younger and had enough money we would join our family in NZ.

You did not mention rubbish that people think its OK to drop anywhere and also you have to be a tap dancer to dodge the dog dirt that no one bothers to pick up either.

Although those with a tracker mortgage aren't doing quite as badly - as Lord Young commented on the other day and then had to resign.

It's normal and it is allowed. Homesickness comes and goes for most of us for all sorts of reasons. It will ease and you'll find your own ways to ride it out.

Hopefully this is part of what a forum like this is mostly about . Help and Support for expats worldwide.

You have a cyber hug from me Zoexr. Having that homesick wave hit you when you don't expect it & you don't want it is rotten.

Sorry your not feeling too good at the moment, homesickness is awful

the things i do to help are;

1. Purchasing 'readybrek' from the local english store - that was comforting ( not the paying $17/box)
2. Confiding in friends and family and being honest about how you feel as they may feel it too
3. Reading the local papers back home and seeing what it is 'really' like and even looking at houses for sale and seeing the dark skies.
4. Look on friends/families facebook pages and see how things do not change
5. Give yourself a big pat for having the balls to grasp a wonderful opportunity
6. be kind to yourself and be easy on yourself

hope your feeling better soon

We've all been there, some let it out and cry others try and pretend it's not happening, but honestly everyone who moves to start a new life abroad experiences it. For some it's a quick pang .. a moment where they miss the feeling of familiarity, other times you feel like your heart has been ripped out. It can last, seconds, minutes, days, weeks ... and for everyone it is different. But we've all been there. I've lived in the US for 13 years and there are still times when I feel overwhelmed with homesickness and then there are times when I am overwhelmed with the feeling that I am very lucky to live here.

At the beginning homesickness can be overwhelming. My advice just go with the flow. Have a good cry (let it all out, it really will make your feel better) and know that as time goes on, it will get a little easier. Focus on why you moved in the first place and think of the positives.

You will have bad days/down days, so be kind to yourself .. don't give yourself a hard time ... and know that you aren't alone. On the down days come on BE and have a vent, after all that's why we started it. So that people like yourself could connect with other expats who would know, and understand, how you feel.
