What 1 bit of advice....?
Probably be done before, so apologies if so, but what one bit of advice would you give to someone thinking of emigrating to NZ?

And to remember that it will probably take longer to get sorted than they perhaps hope.

Research and spend at least 6 months out here before commiting yourself.
Come out with eyes wide open but be prepared for what you dont expect.

It does feel good to have that blue sticker in the passport though!
All that cash and research and all they give you is a sticker, oh and you are allowed to spend loads of money in their country!
Will it be a yes or no..............................

Adjust your standard of living before you get here, then it won't be such a shock to the whole family

To many smug people in this country who think they know it all without importing more.

Money! Bring loads and loads of money! It must be the hole in the ozone, but your UK pounds will just evaporate here and so quickly! If you want your new life to get off to a flying start and you want to be as stress free and as debt free as possible bring enough to buy outright. Don't underestimate what you can get by on unless you don't mind doing ' The Good Life ' thing!! Stuff looks cheap when you doing a recce; it ain't necessarily so on a Kiwi wage.

Just come here and be yourself.....
Many will ask where are you from if like a Welsh person you have a different UK accent and theres no problem with having a 'back home' thing or to say as it is after all ultimately 'home' if thats where you were born.
We plan on being here for good and tell people that when asked...
Every last person we've met here so far has been very friendly, from someone you talk to walking the dog on the beach to the neighbours to shop staff.
I know its says 'one bit of advice'......but
Don't take relatives to the airport to see you off especially if you have young kids with you.

The similarities can be the wierdest bit coming from UK.
If you emigrated to China you would be much more prepared for the cultural/lifestyle differences than coming to NZ.
Have a good curry before you move, or learn how to cook one!
Been here in the Bay of Plenty for 2 yrs with OH 2 kids + one coming in October. It's been hard, expensive, emotional, amazing, sunny, fresh & healthy.
Just found a Pommie master butcher in Papamoa who makes the best bangers south of Huddersfield, and 'Will not be stocking smoked bacon of any description'
