Default Whangarei area

Hi not been on this for a while I just read other reviews on what's going on.
Our move to nz is ticking along at the mo, Could any one give me a heads up as my other half is in discussion with the Hospital at Whangarei.
All I know it's about 2hrs from Auckland, house prices are reasonable, I just need to know what's the area like.
I'm just worried thinking about my 2 lads (21 & 19) not meeting & making friends.
Is there any expats in this area?

Regards Nick

I live an hour further North (near Kerikeri) but Whangarei is relatively large and prosperous, all the Aucklanders moving north :-). We do a bit of shopping there as it is the Northland regional centre with all mod cons. Plenty of expats but not wall to wall like Keri which is probably a good thing. Can't see why the lads would have problems. The Hospital seems to cover most of Northland. Sorry if that is a bit general

I know Whangarei very well.

I have (kiwi) nieces and nephews about your lads age who live in Whangrei and they have a nice group of friends. Their lives do revolve around fishing, rugby and whanau as all good kiwi young do.......

But we enjoy it when we are there. PM me if you have any questions and I can try to answer.

It will depend on the type of people your lads are

My two would hate the place, it would be far too quiet and isolated for them

The only locations I suggest you would get better facilities and urban entertainment would be a proper city ie Auckland, Wellington, ChCh and if that is what you need/want go for it. Whangarei is a typical largish town, on the coast, good climate but no pretensions :-)
