Whangarei - anyone lived there
Whangarei - has anyone lived or visited Northland. We would like to relocate their. I have a job offer, money's not too good. Husband will have to look for work when we arrive. Does it have much to offer in jobs and shops. Any info welcomed.

Boopy There are a couple of members on the forum who live in Northland - if they don't respond to you on here you could try sending them a pm and maybe they'll be able to give you a bit more info - usernames are pixi-dust and shazzafromnz - both lovely and I'm sure will be happy to help with info on the area...I think Shazza does actually live in Whangarei and has posted info on the area on here before - I'll have a look and see if I can find anything for you...well, just done a search and 13 threads came up with Whangarei in them!! Here's a few to be going on with...hope this helps...;) http://britishexpats.com/forum/showt...ight=whangarei http://britishexpats.com/forum/showt...ight=whangarei http://britishexpats.com/forum/showt...ight=whangarei http://britishexpats.com/forum/showt...ight=whangarei |

Hi Pinkie Pie, thanx, that was very helpful, however Lizard doesn't paint a good picture of Whangarei.

Re: Whangarei - anyone lived there
Hi Boopy,
I am from Northland, was actually born in Whangarei but moved away from there about 15 years ago. I still have homes up there though because it is a nice escape to get to when I get a chance. Whangarei is quite a sunny city and if you like the ocean as well as shopping, the beach is only minutes away. Jobwise, there is definitely work available - it just depends on what industry your husband works in. You might want to have a look at JobStuff to get an idea of what work is available up there for him. In terms of living lifestyle, Whangarei isn't much different to any other city. It is busy and some of the roads can be a bit confusing, I still get lost on them when I go up there because they change so often. As for the areas, every city has their rough areas but remember they also have their nice areas which certainly outnumber the not so pleasant ones. Hope that helps :) |

Is the Bay of Plenty location more expensive to live in, also what's the job
front like. Boopy

Alot of wealth but also alot of poverty. If you can afford to buy or rent a house in a nice area that would be ok, but if you dont have much cash you could end up in a dodgy area. The scenery can be stunning but not the people. Also the hospital has a reputation for being very clicky. You may not even have an offer of work at the hospital. Bay of Plenty is much nicer Tauranga or Whakatane ( some of the nicest beaches in NZ) . Hope this helps, any more info I will be happy to help out.
