WHANGAREI

Hello everybody!
I'm thinking of settling in the Whangarei area because of work. I've researched it but can anybody give me either positive/negative points. I am married and have a 6 yr old son. Hubby can move at the drop of a hat.

Thank you
Izzy - x

Re: WHANGAREI

I've got some family that live up that way and they seem to love it. For me it's a bit too far from the rest of NZ (just my opinion off course).

Some lovely small towns and incredible bush up that way and property prices aren't too high.

I know Whangarei very well. It's a reasonable sized kiwi town which is well placed for good access to beaches and the northland. there are reasonable shops, an excellent Saturday veggie market and pretty good schools - some better than others, you need to do some research. Some decent restaurants, lots of sports clubs for the young, Saturday is the day everyone goes out to watch or play sports with children.

Not much culture, but Auckland is a 2 hour drive if you need a fix of whatever NZ has to offer......

It's very Kiwi, but a reasonable selection of Brits I belive. Friendly, usually no frost and decent weather and more affordable housing than Auckland, but still more expensive than some remote areas.

You'd definitely get a feel of the kiwi way of life, and they are mostly welcoming and friendly.
