Spent a month in NZ last year ostensibly to see some friends who moved to Nelson from the UK
OK. I get that you're hacked off with your present lives. Are you thinking of coming here to Nelson and Bays then?

I tend to hear 'BLOODY OATH', but perhaps it is just NZPost culture.

Change 'weather' to 'scenery' and I'd say exactly the same thing.

OK, so it's a two year-old photo.

Let's try this progressively, OK? Me last year in Tasmania. 'Say CHEEEEEESE!'

Spent a fair chunk of my tiny Kiwi salary to see the Blackcaps lose to Aussie (expected) and lose to England (oh dear, not expected...).

Sorry OP. I think I just hijacked your thread.

I kinda fell in love with NZ when I was out here in 2006, spent some time in Aussie afterwards and I liked it, but missed here a lot.

Got home in Feb of last year, settled back into my old life and job, all much as before as if I hadn't been away! Decided I wanted to get back out here, found a job, got the visa, got here 8 months after returning from home.

I love Edinburgh to bits, but I want to be here just now, not sure how long or whatever, but just enjoying NZ for what it is and offers and a slower pace of life and just the excitement of it, still feels unreal and like I'm on me hols!

Its not all perfect, some ways it lags behing what you are used to in the UK, but the plusses are fantastic

We've come back to the UK and realised what a toilet the place has become. I'm a civil servant and my wife is a nurse, we both have a very strong service ethos but we also have two kids and cannot see a future here. I am regularly abused at work and my wife is sick of not being able to nurse people to the standard she was taught. We have nothing left over at the end of the month, indeed we often spend more out than comes in, we hardly see one another and when we do, it's only to catch up with sleep!! We work our backsides off and get nowhere.

We will need to work - we will need a mortgage - who cares though when you can live in a beautiful place with lovely people and sense of community.

I envy anyone who has made this move and we can't wait to come over and leave behind the sinking ship that is the UK. 4 hour commutes - dirty hospitals -underfunded public services - crap education and uncontrolled immigration to the benefit of no-one.

I never thought I'd ever say this but I have grown to hate living here.

Anyone else had a similar 'road to Damascus' moment?
Erm, have you ever read about New Zealand hospitals ? They're even worse than English ones, and time to see specialist is even longer ! NZ public transport, mmm, that would be a good idea, because it virtually does not exist compared to Europe ! And the number of murders, drugs in the cities is quite high here too.Mortgage rate is touching 10% here , most people cannot afford a basic house in many suburbs (including me) . Grass is maybe greener ?
But NZ IS a beautiful , unspoilt place.

You do realise that NZ has these problems too don't you, don't leave because you hate the UK, go because you truely believe that the only place that can offer you what you want is New Zealand. It's a big world out there.

Do you honestly expect your work experiences to be any better in NZ?

Be careful about travelling the road to Damascus because you could be needing a good Samaritan sooner than you think.

I have just read about shootings in the small quiet town where I lived in England. Youth are becoming "feral", out of control and are getting hold of guns, even in country towns.
What has happened to England ? Why are the youth becoming like this ?

There are many reasons, but the main factor for me is that fathers have been systematically taken away from families by the state imposing of "feminised" laws, and single parent (ie mothers) families have created all these out of control kids. This started among the working classes in the 70s and 80s , but now has spread to the rest of society. Women have been encouraged by the state to abandon the traditional 2 parent family model, first by "no fault divorces" (achieved by easy domestic violence allegations) and then financially, paying them for housing , tax credits). The state first paid for all these single mothers, but when it was realised that costs were spiralling, the fathers were made to pay by the Child Support laws. Although men pay 55-70% of tax in every industrial country, the feminists have won the battle and are now using laws to beat down men. But the side effect has been a breakdown in society, and we are now just starting to pay the price for the deliberate destruction of the family.

Fathers have been telling the government this for years, but this has fallen on deaf ears AND IT WILL ALL GET WORSE

So, you are blaming it all on single mums?

indeed and reading the OP's comment on service standards in health and govt. then I'd be a bit wary of precisely where they work in NZ, some organisations in those fields have lower standards than they might feel happy with. Also you might find a very similar attitude of employer to employee if you land in the wrong place. Not sure exavtly where that is but as others have said the push of bad experience in the UK is not always the best impetus to send you to NZ. Do your research and be prepared for some interesting experiences.

Maybe the youth are like that because they don't have strong father figures to guide them through their early lives. Nothing to do with single mums - just weak fathers.

Anyway, if your argument was sound the "feminisation" of a society would tend to make it more placcid and nurturing, rather than aggresive.

I am blaming it all on the destruction of the traditional family,

Do you really think that Women would get divorced as easily if they were not given free legal aid, large percentages of family home (mostly paid for by the man) and chattels, half the man's pension, alimony, child support , yeah right ! The laws have been feminised so much that the state bends over backwards to encourage all these "entitlement princesses". But the damage that all the broken families is causing is just starting !

That's probably the case in a very small amount of single parent families, I wouldn't say that's the norm. There are probably as many fathers that ***** off and leave their kids to the mum to bring up.
Anyway, lets not get into this, I know your circumstances are pretty dire, and you have been treated very badly but dont tar all women with the same brush.

Me too...I've debated this on here before...no further comment except to say all men don't share Brussels high commitment to family values any more than all women do.

Still think they should bring back public flogging for the little troublemakers, shove em in the shocks and let folks throw rotten veggies at them...

Or, if you are Helen Clark, then your idea to solve this is to keep them in education til 18...great Helen, how you gonna enforce that one, is there not something like 30,000 kiwi kids truant/abesnt from school every day
