We're here and LOVING IT!!

Hi guys

Well we are here and have finally got our internet connection sorted so that we can update everyone of our experiences - YEY!

Well, where do we start…. firstly I guess we should say that we love it here already, an instant hit! The people are just so friendly it is difficult to explain to people back home who haven't been here. Everywhere we go people ask about where we have come from and are so positive about our decision to move here and the advice they offer is great. The number of times we have been to do a mundane task such as in the bank or estate agent and have come away with some worldly advice about cars or insurance or anything completely beyond their service is just unreal. They just couldn’t go out of their way enough to help us out and it is a real breath of fresh air.

We are staying very close to a beautiful 2km long beach, we are in Torbay on the North Shore, and we have been there every morning for either a walk or run and it is amazing how many people you meet doing the same. Everyone seems to just love being outside and making the most of the day. We have been getting up early because our body clocks haven’t adjusted and even at 7.30 on a Sunday morning there were groups on the beach playing touch rugby, people walking dogs and running. It is just great and they will all say a cheery hello as you pass.

Anyway, on to the nitty gritty. We have fallen in love with the area we are staying in, as it has a lovely community feel and is surrounded by the sea. So we rapidly began house hunting and yesterday we secured our long-term rental place. It is so lovely, better than we could have imagined. It has a living room and dining room, linked in the middle by a nice big kitchen and all 3 have stunning views out over the sea. The living and dining rooms have huge patio doors that lead out on to the deck that runs the length of the place with the same amazing views. It then has 2 double bedrooms, one of which is upstairs on it’s own and really capitalises on those views again. It has a good size garden that has loads of native planting that makes it very secluded and tucked away out of sight, it is like a little secret garden. Anyway it is safe to say we have fallen in love with the place and can’t wait to move in on the 11th April when hopefully our container of stuff should arrive.

We also bought a car yesterday that we pick up later on today. It is a Toyota RAV 4 that was a bargain price so hopefully it actually is in the good condition it appeared. It is just what we wanted and we can’t wait to throw bikes in the back and head off to do some exploring.

Well, we have been non stop with organising so far and so now those bits are sorted hopefully we will be able to get on with some fun stuff. Oh yeah and getting jobs – BOOOOO! Just kidding, actually we made a good contact with a recruitment agent yesterday and so hopefully there will be some good news on that front soon also.

Right, well we are off to explore some more now and so we will hopefully be able to update you more with our adventures soon, internet connection allowing :curse:

Take care all, bye for now. Amy and Grant :D

Glad you are enjoying it. DITTO to what you said, we fell in love with NZ instantly as well and found everyone from the real estate agent telling us where to buy bargain bedding to the bank clerk telling us about the quietest prettiest beaches, enjoy!

YAY!! Congrats!! So glad you're happy here! I used to live in Torbay so I know its a lovely area and Long Bay beach is gorgeous, we went down there the other day for a swim. If you need anything, just let me know, the doctors surgery there is AWESOME, Claire Dudding is a renowned GP. Even though we're in a different area, I'll stay registered there.

Stay in touch! And let us know how you're getting on!

Hello and a big fat welcome
Sounds like a dream so far, it is fab here isn't it?
Your new home sounds perfect, you will NEVER get tired of those views! Watch out for dolphins, we only saw one pod in the 3 years we had sea views but it was something else.

It sounds great, what a brill thread you posted, your house sounds perfect. I would love to have those sea views, its one of the things we are hoping to get in NZ, can't afford the seaview here in cornwall.

Its great to read all about it, well-done.
Marika :)

Congratulations and welcome to the Shore.........
We looked at Torbay and would have ended up there (or thereabouts) had MrsL not got her job dead close to a good school up on the Hiiiiibiscus Coast.
Anyway good luck and enjoy the chipshop at the centre of Torbay, we did but MrsL left her sunglasses there :(
Hope the warm weather continues (after the current windy/wet stuff rolls away!).
