Default We're coming!

Hi

Shippers coming on Thursday, so much still to do.... really shouldn't be wasting time on here when there is loads of cleaning to do.

Any last minute tips?

Anyone want a massive conservatory plant? free to good home! Strangely enough I had it given form someone who emigrated and couldn't take it with them! Poor plant -no-one loves it!

Good luck with the move - don't stand still for too long or the shippers will have you wrapped and packed.

Where in NZ are you going? - noticed you are from Wakefield, we're just down the road.

Remember not to pack the kettle til the end - or do as we do and borrow one and use disposable cups etc! Might be beer weather though.

Good luck with the shippers on Thursday- take as much stuff as you can fit into the container! (when we moved to Singapore 10 yrs ago we only had a few air frieght boxes and wished we'd taken more family items and furniture with us).

Lizard- have you been home to Sheffield since emigrating? Our son is at uni there and loves it. His accomodation is right next to a tram line in the city and he enjoys how reasonably priced things are - especially beer and eating out.
Where are you living in nz? Do you enjoy NZ?

Hi not been back since we moved out here, miss the night life and the beer.
We live about one hours drive south from Tauranga near Whakatane. Yes we enjoy living here people are in general very friendly. Miss the social scene back home, we live in the country so don't get out very much now. We used to live close to the village pub on the outskirts of Sheffield but plenty of opportunity to go into the city, Don't have that opportunity here. No pub, no city where we live but we have a place in the country and really great neighbours. Still home sick sometimes especially at night. Day time is great though. Tauranga has a bit more going for it.

We stayed in the motor inn in Whakatane back in 1999. Don't remember much about it tho. What attracted you to NZ? What work are you doing in the countryside? What does Tauranga have going for it?

Whakatane as also grown since 1999. We were attracted to Nz because we always wanted a smallholding and this was the only place we could afford one. Much rather have had it in England though. Tauranga is ok for bars restuarants etc

I can imagine you have to work quite hard on a small holding with little time to socialise. oh dear -You do sound homesick. and it really is so far from home. That was one reason we didn't go for it in '99. Things, circumstances- children have changed since then, for us. We'll have to see for ourselves I guess.

Kiwis call "kettles" "jugs" - they also think that our plastic washing up bowls are an absolute hoot as they just wash up in the sink!

Hi Nick,

The big tip! Go out and get more and more travel adaptors. You can never have enough. Only been in NZ 4 weeks, but sick of constantly swapping adaptors. Just rang my brother to send another 15 - 20. Also have a few multi socket cables - that will save on a few adaptors.
Good luck

Dee

Definately..... we only brought a couple with us and it was a pain swapping them around all the time. We went to a local Mitre 10 and there was adaptors there for 99c each.... we only bought a couple as we thought that was obviously the price they are here. Over the next few days we realised that 99c was the bargain of the year and normally they are bl**dy expensive to buy!! We went back to the same shop to get more.... surprise surprise.... all sold out. Oh well.... you learn from your mistakes dont ya.

Hello everyone! I dont have any tips for you as we just arrived with a suitcase each and sold everything in Uk but just wanted to say hi and wish you all well on your journey over here.
It is such an exciting time. I remember in every detail my last day in the uk almost 4 years ago (well, apart from the 2x I have been back for holidays!)

Hope the sun is shinning for your arrival and you all settle in and enjoy your new lives
