We're all about to get a whole lot poorer
Despite calling it a joke during the last election buid up, our
glorious leader Mr Key has decided to go ahead with rolling out
the ETS on 1st july.
This is going to have a knock on effect that will send up prices for
everyday goods and utilities.
What on earth are these idiots thinking of?
Do they seriously think this ridiculous scheme is going to "save the planet"?
what a load of bloody nonsense. This is what happens when you give tree hugging idiots
like the green party a voice and even bigger idiots listen
And if thats not enough the buggers have just anounced fags are going up

Its not just fags and beer though is it?
Are we now to be expected to pay an additional tax on luxuries now simply because we can afford them?
when both of those have gone it will be over to the motorist
to bail out the system, just like the uk.

That's already started.
Everyone's ACC levies are going up, and it won't all be used for ACC.
You just thought it was bikers didn't you?

Are they going to charge NZ for the Volcanoes' carbon emissions? If so we're screwed big time.

Isn't ETS an international agreement? Won't NZrisk facing penalties if it does not sign-up?
Isn't it a good thing, for a country that positions itself on the international tourist market as an eco-friendly' destination, to be a part of this agreement?
So much I don't understand too!
I don't hug trees (unless really drunk), but I do value the environment.

That's alright cos nobody here understands it either, far less the politicians who have signed up for it. Perhaps you can have a read of this and come back and give us a precis.

Apparently there are 38 countries in similar schemes including the EU which has by far the largest scheme of this kind, I guess they don't make such a big hullabaloo over it, or you would have known all about it. NZ is still in denial, cos they believes they is clean and green already.
There's talk now with Australia having opted for a later adoption, NZ may do the same http://www.nzherald.co.nz/politics/n...ectid=10641509

Re: We're all about to get a whole lot poorer
Last week we had the furore over the signing of the 'United Nations Declaration on the rights of Indigenous Peoples' all kept hush, hush and done under cover. Again nobody seems to know what exactly they have agreed to and what it actually means. Crikey we've still not agreed upon the meaning of the Treaty of Waitangi after one hundred and seventy years, so lets go ahead and sign this bit of paper and see if we can't confuse the matter even more.
The Law Commission went to great pains to research and write a 514 page review of the country's liquor laws with no less than 153 recommendations to tackle the country's alcohol problems. The top recommendation of course being to raise the taxes - so the Government chose to ignore it and refused to raise the tax.
The next day the price of a packet of fags up 10% overnight, with no warning after having ruled out increasing tax on alcohol the day before. Aren't they supposed to do these kinds of things in the budget and not sneak the 'under the radar' whilst people are sleeping in their beds?
Still, we're 'considering' raising the drinking age to 20 but we'll kick that one around a bit longer. You can drive a car at 15, have sexual relations, get married and have four kids by the time you are twenty, but though MUST not drink alcohol.

Typical stuff from the right of centre peeps that brought you Thatcherism and George Bush.
Can't teach old dogs new tricks.

As I am not in the camp of climate change denial,I think its a good idea and a country like NZ with small population and large carbonsinks will be considerably better placed than many European countries within the framework- just a shame about the remotenes of NZ really.
